Don´t know. I don´t have any stats or hard data to verify what you are saying.
All passengers are inspected under the same criteria. Those with a legitimate reason to visit Canada normally will find the process straight forward and trouble free and those that don´t...

It is Americans not American´s.
Second:
American or not they go through thr exact same examination as everyone else.
A previous criminal offence in their record will show up. In most cases, that makes them inadmissible.
It works both ways though.

northern Alberta has a large number of small contractors they usually hire a cousin from here a friend from there from US or europe to do the job.
Let me tell you , if you are a real visitor to Canada , Edmonton would be the last place you land first , visitors come true TO,MTL,VCR.unless you have familly .
i remember an episod of frontlime when this british visitor with his roofing and construction gear in his logage :-)
