The anynomous contributor has made one of the most compeling cases about the inefficiency and bureaucracy of CIC, and has made a very accurate estimation of the revenue CIC makes in immigration receipts. I congratulate this person for showing of one of the most impartial and fact-based analysis of how CIC is receiving a considerable amount of money and still doing nothing to keep clients informed.

Unfortunately, we have not idea of how much it costs to process applications and conduct security and background checks. What I don´t see in people who brought forward the costs of to the government is that such procedures are of benefit of to Canada. In other words, CIc has mounted a process that screens for potential or future terrorists and criminals among potential immigrants.

You must recognize that the immigration policy is of benefit for the whole country and that having good-quality immigrants is also of value to society. These costs need to be assumed by the government to protect current Canadians citizens and permanent residents. I disagree with the position by Yijie that CIC does this to deter potential applicants.

We cannot say if the CIC immigration program is profitable or not. However, as the anonymous pointed out, it generates a great deal of revenue to make the program affordable to the Canadian government. Let´s accept it, this is not the most unprofitable project in the canadian government portfolio of projects. It is no neccesary that the government breaks even.

Unfortunately, we do not know the costs of running the program, and we cannot say what is the value for the country as a whole of welcoming only those immigrants that have no criminal/terrorist history. However, we know that NON-CANADIANS are contributing for a good chunk of money, as estimated by the anonymous contributor.

don´t forget the 700-800,000 application fees is 4-5 years worth of wages and overhead for the embassies - not 1. There is that quota thing again.

Yes, Ozz it is a win/win for the applicants and Canada. Any idea what it costs for other countries?

I am sure there is an audit report buried in the CIC website or the Treasury department website that would tell us the actual cost of immigration. Whoever finds it first wins!

So, Australian government makes more money of immigration than Candian government. Do not stick into other governments´ mistakes just to justify Canadian government´s mistake!
One more thing:
Do not forget that there is no background/security check for approximately 75% of the applicants who are not qualified!

Sharon,
Talking about audit, do you think if Auditor general does another auditor to CIC department, there will be another ??sponsorship scandal???
Like lack of paper tracking, misspending,
