Subject: Sponsoring a spouse
Hello, I have a load of questions actually. I´m really confused and need some help

1.How long do i have to be living in canada to be able to sponsor my husband? (I have a PR but currently living in my hometown)

2.Will it be easy for him to get a temporary visa to stay with me in Canada while el sponsoring process ends? And is this a better option or taking an open work permit?

3.On the CIC website, it says that the pr process takes 18 months to either be accepted or denied. Is this the minimum or the maximum?

4.If in the 5 years from the day of landing, i stay in Canada for only 2 years. Supposedly my PR will be renewed for another 5 years. To get the citizenship, should I stay for another 3 years? or will I need only 1 year?

Thanks in advance

1. There is no minimum time.
2. It likely will not be easy to obtain a TRV. CIC will guess your spouse has plans to stay in Canada long term and will likely deny the TRV. But you can always try. As for the open work permit - your spouse doesn´t qualify for one at this time. If you apply using the inland process, your spouse will qualify for an open work permit once your application has first stage approval (about 10 months after you submit the application).
3. It´s certainly not the maximum. Assume it´s an average.
4. To qualify for citizenship you must live in Canada for three years out of a four year period. When your PR card expires has nothing to do with it.

-Ok will it be a better option if he applies for a TRV before we get married, then after he does get it, we get married in our hometown and then travel to Canada?
And if so, he´ll need a letter of invitation from someone in Canada. Could this someone be a family friend who has a teenage daughter and son, or will it be denied?

-4 years period starting when? I don´t really get it?

-Can my husband work in Canada while on a temporary resident visa, but jobs that do not require a work permit?

-And regarding the pr renewal. If I go live in Canada in the last year of the 5 years, will they take my PR when I leave Canada and by that i wont be able to enter again? And if i stay in canada for another year, so by that ill be in canada for 2 years (but only 1 year within 5), will I get the pr renewal?
I hope my question is clear :D

1. As a PR technically you have to be in Canada when you sign your forms and while the process is going through.

2. Depending on his occupation it could be possible to obtain a employer specific work permit. If he is from a visitor visa exempt country - come on over but be careful what he says his reason for visiting is all about.

3. 18 months to complete 80% of the files. Read it again

4. correct
