Subject: Returning to Canada
I first moved to Canada in 1999 as a student at U of T. I unfortunately didn´t complete my degree, but got a college diploma for Web Design in between my time at university. I then opened up my own design business for a few years. During this time I met a girl and we lived together. We submitted a common law application. As this was getting processed we went through some hard times and ended up parting ways so she withdrew her sponsorship. Due to being out of status, I was asked to report once a month at CIC near Pearson. After a few months I was called for an interview, after reviewing my file, the officer issued a removal order and stated that I would also be issued a 1 year exclusion order. CIC paid for the flight.

Just to make things interesting, a month before I left I met the girl who I am now engaged to. We have been together for over 2 years now, she has visited me a few times in Tanzania. I proposed to her last year on one of her visits, after which she moved to Tanzania and we stayed together for 6 months. She is now back in Toronto working.

I am wondering what my chances are of being granted a visitor visa or if we should get married and go through a spousal application.

Does my previous history play a big part or does the fact that I have stayed out of Canada for over 2 years, have a job with an international hotel chain, haven´t applied for any Canadian visas during that time, have a strong relationship with my fiancee and we both want to get married, make a difference?

Your chances of getting a visitor´s visa are slim to none. Actually not a chance.

You would have to marry your sweety and she will have to sponsor you from outside of Canada. Then move to Canada with a PR visa....

You are in for a ride with CIC.
