Subject: Canadian citizen sponsoring wife - Time Frame pls
  Hello,

I am a citizen of Canada and I live in Brampton, Ontario.

My wife is currently living in Brazil.

I want to sponsor my wife to come to Canada.

Can you please tell me how I can do this and also how much time it will take to bring her to Canada.

I did a quick search and saw here:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm/fc-spouses.asp

that the current processing time for visa office in Brazil (city of Sao Paulo) is 14 months.

But my question is can my wife come to Canada before the application is processed?

Can she come to live with me before the 14 months, or does she have to wait until the application is approved and finalized before coming to Canada?

Please advise, thank you

S.A.

@SA

Look again at the time line it states "how long it took to process 80 percent of all cases" so if and when you submit your application has to be better than the rest to speed up the process.

Consider your Spousal Sponsorship the same as a Restaurant meal you are going to pay for.

One Restaurant cook plops all the required food on a plate and drops it in front of you.

Another Restaurant Chef places the meat and vegetables just a certain way to make your order look far more visually appetizing.

Which meal do you want to start eating first?

Anyone can fill in a form (according to CIC) and many do not screw up the forms that much. Yet one mistake can cause an interview to be called at which your wife could say something not matching the forms and then you got an appeal process to wait & wait for.

Experienced authorized Immigration Counsels can shave many months off the processing times by assisting their client to prove beyond a doubt that their relationship is genuine.

Yes your spouse after applying may receive a Canadian Visitor visa and be admitted as a visitor during the processing times. Remember the Visa Post will want to know why your wife is so.... special.

Recently I consulted with a Canadian who was sponsoring his wife from Pakistan who had been admitted to Canada as a visitor. When they applied for an extension of her visitor status she was refused and issued a departure order. She did not leave and the departure order became a deportation order.

He thought the Visa Post would not be informed.

Thank you so much for your reply.

I live in Canada and my wife is now back in her home country of Brazil.

Can she apply for a student visa and then come to Canada?

second question:

While I am in Canada, I will sponsor her for Canadian permanent residence. During that time, if she is in the U.S. on a U.S. student visa (F-1) will that be ok?

Or does she have to remain in Brazil when I sponsor her for the Canadian permanent residence.

You just can´t stand to be apart. Plus you got money to throw away for a study permit. You got it bad puppy.

I guess my last reply did not really sink in. While I´ll be more blunt. Do a really good Spousal Sponsorship really good and that will cut the time line down considerably.

Once that is submitted invite her up here to travel on the Snow Train, go tubing or on a dog sled trip into Algonquin Park for two nights.

Now was she removed by CBSA?

SA,

Keep it simple and faster. You have basically three options:

1- You move down to Brazil and sponsor your wife from outside of Canada as a Permanent Resident. Once her visa is approved, all of you can move together to Canada.

2- You stay in Canada, your wife stays in Brazil. You sponsor her from outside of Canada. In the mean time while the application is being process, you can go down to Brazil and visit your spouse.

3- You can try to circumvent the system the way you are planning, bringing her either as a student or visitor and then trying to convert a temporary permit to a permanent resident status. The problem with this is that she has a very high chance of having her visitor´s visa and/or student visa refused, also she could be refused of entry into Canada even if the visa was approved, then things will go to hell in a hurry for you. It is going to cost you a lot of money, stress, longer processing times and if your application for PR is refused, you have no right to appeal.

Now you decide.

Sponsoring a person you Love to be with you (hopefully forever) is never simple.

Love is blind at first and short comings are sometimes over looked.

Passion sometimes rules one decisions and logic goes out the window.

Please be wise.

Sponsoring my Husband in the US (in reply to: Canadian citizen sponsoring wife - Time Frame pls)
My husband and I have been married for 16 years now, I am Canadian he is American. Due to many factors we have not been able to be in one place or the other and both of us had places we went back and forth to over the years. Now all that is resolved we want to make Canada our Perm Home. Last visit when we got to the border they told us we HAD to get the papers and would not let him come back to Canada with me but let him sign a voluntary withdrawal and went back to the US. We are not in the process. Question is...once I get word I am able to sponsor him, can he come here to stay with me for the time it takes to process his Permanent Residency?
