  hi yijie,

i know that you are very eager to ask any questions related to anything within canada, here´s my questions : you said in your previous posts that you are using a CAD$500~800 used car, how much is the registration/government tax and insurance for that car price range? does it still passing the emmission testing? is emmission testing required vehicle registrations in canada? how do you get your driver´s license? i mean, what are the practical written questions about? how strict is the practical driver inspector? how do they grade you? how much is the fee for the license? when landed as immigrant, am i allowed to use my country of origin driver´s license for a while and for how long? is it adviseable to get an international license prior landing? thanks for answers.

Here is my answer, only for residents of British Columbia, ok?!
Yep, I am still driving my 1986 Toyota Corolla, with 280,000KM on that, it has been almost 9 month, never failed me once. Those little Japanese car, good on gas, they are just so great!!!! They are just so reliable. I am not trying to offend yankee ok? Same year American car, really, can??t rely on them. I plan to drive my car from Vancouver to Halifax when I get PR for celebration with my girlfriend and kid.

Registration for the used car is 7% of your transaction value, like my car, bought from a old lady 800 dollars, license and registration fee together, 60 dollars back to last year, 2004.Only Lower Mainland (great Vancouver area) needs air care. Not my sweet Nanaimo Vancouver Island. Me? How did I get my driver license?
Ok, I haven??t learn any driving skill back to my country. In B.C. I have to pass computer knowledge test, you can use your own language. I fail once. I tried Chinese, fail, I almost can??t read my mother toner at that time. English, pass. You have to get 80% correct. Lot of kids fail right now, because of English reading skills. See how bad is my Chinese after I came to Canada, because I hardly have opportunity to use my language. Damn it, you know what? I almost can??t write Chinese characters, don??t even mention pass Driver knowledge test. After you past knowledge test, you get your class 7, you can driver car but you have to have a person with class 5 full license without restriction go with you. Anyway, please check www.icbc.com for details.
For landed immigrant, you can only use your license for three month.
Only citizens from U.S, Britain, Japan, Korea can transfer their license without examination.

Do you mean driver licensee examiner, I failed 2 times on road test. It??s my fault.
Remember all the time, shoulder check, no one hand driving.

No loud stereo when you have exam, remember, I failed because of that too.
I still remember last year, when it??s first spring day of the year with cherry trees booming. I had road test, with my one hand and background music was ?? soak up the sun??. I just felt so exciting of the spring came to my town. I can??t help to sing the song because I gonna have real class 5 soon.

?? my friend is communist, hold meeting in her RV, I can??t afford her gas?? I even sang the song.

I failed instantly.
??Drive without concentration??

In BC (in reply to: to yijie)
Canadian, American, Austrian, German, Swiss, Japanese or South Korean driver´s licence?

You will be issued a new equivalent class B.C. driver´s licence. In most cases, you will not need to take a road test if you hold:

a Canadian or American passenger car or motorcycle operator´s licence, or
an Austrian, German or Swiss Category B or German Class 3 driver´s licence for passenger cars, or
a Japanese Ordinary driver´s licence or a South Korean Class 2 Ordinary driver´s licence for passenger cars, or
a Canadian licence equivalent to a B.C. Class 1, 2, 3 or 4 (commercial) licence

thanks Sharon, however ,guys, our stories are only valid in British Columbia, since Sharon and I are both from here, I am not quite sure about Ontario or any other place except B.C, they may have different policy than us.
