Subject: Moving to Canada
  Hi,
I have been dating my girlfriend for 4 years now and she recently moved back to canada. We both went to college together in the US. She is a candian citizen and I am a U.S. citzen. I would like to move there and start looking for a job but from what I´ve read its not that easy. We plan on getting married but not at the moment. Can you give me some advise on what steps I should take so I can eventually live with my girlfriend in Canada. Thank you

Easiest way is for her to sponsor you. In order to sponsor you, the two of you must either be married or common law. Common law means that you have physically lived together for at least one full year.

If you try to "move" to Canada before you have permanent residency status or before you have a work permit, there is always some chance you might be denied entry into Canada if it looks like you´re trying to make a permanent move rather than visiting.

Does living in the same dorm complex count? It´s the same address

Can I go to canada being a U.S. citizen and live with my girlfriend for a year and to obtain common law sponsorship?

They could easily ask for undeniable proof of man-woman like relationship; such proof, however, may not mean you have to send them pictures of you in deep coitus with her! Just a caution to heed.
