Subject: general interest, settlement experience
If that??s general interest, I will start this discussion related to my own experience, hopefully it will help most of people here.

Stories have to begin before I came to Canada. I watched CBS, ABC news since I was teenage, tried to understand what North American??s thinking is a way hard task for me. Also at that time, my English is not quite good; have to depend on subtitles when I watched survivor and NYPD blue on the TV. I knew the best ways to understand their daily life is depend on papers. Luckily, my westernize city got tons of foreigners. My public library has New York Times and Wall street journal, also combined with Late Show. Still, it??s too hard to understand most of slang.

Well, as I mentioned before I had my first year and second year done over University of Regina Saskatchewan before I transferred to Malaspina University-College, Nanaimo, and B.C. Generally speaking, according to my common sense of living. Universities, colleges are the best place for making friends, getting connection, jogging, finding you a date.

I knew for an English as a second language student and lack of knowledge of Canada will be my prevention of future employment opportunities and have sustainable life like Kyoto protocol in Canada. They are both the essential skills of surviving in the new country. Furthermore, you have to have confidence when you do job interview. I remembered the first several weeks I came to Canada, in order to practice English. I just simply sit with groups of students in cafeteria. Use my hardly understand English, tell them.?? Hi, my name is Yijie, I just came to Regina for several days ago. I hope I can talk with you guys. ??

I kept doing this for every single dinner and lunch. Canadian students are so kind and friendly; they would not refuse to have discussion with you. The way in which to settle down is making friends, act whatever they act, try to be as much Canadian as possible, that??s my policy. Ask whatever: 10 times why if you don??t know anything about it. Nobody will laugh at you, ?? dumb Chinese, don??t know what is land of living sky mean??? There is no stupid question in the world. The only thing is you have to ask. Try to appreciate the new culture instead of thinking your one is more advance than here.

It took me about half year to have confidence to talk to Canadian girls without blushing

( to be continue, coffee break interrupt, need begin working, sorry)
