Hi Nisha:

From your name I guess, you are from India. In that case, you should apply for a PCC at the nearest police station of your home town in India. Any of your family members can collect the PCC but you have to make an application and send to them. CIC will do the background check by themselves, so this is basically a formality that you have to complete from your side. Timeframe won´t be an issue.

Best of luck.

Hi Nisha:

I live in Canada, originally from India though.

As per the CIC website info, applicants should obtain PCC from US and Canada only when asked by CIC. So I did not submit a RCMP clearance with my application. Fortunately, they did not ask me for a RCMP clearance during my IA.

I am not sure about the US system.

Hope this helps a bit.

PCC problems solved !!! (in reply to: PCC)
The best option is to go to the Indian Consulate or Indian Embassy or a Indian High Commision and request for a PCC.

The Indian Office here will coordinate with the regional passport office where you got your passport and will issue a Police clearance Certificate. This is a valid PCC as it originated from the ministry of external affairs.

Your PCC problem will be solved with this. I have done it twice and the CIC had no problems with it.

Dear Nisha,

For PCC of India, You can get it from Indian Embassy or Indian Consulate office, but for USA you have to get FBI Clearance, which you have to submit if Immigration office asked for.

Good Luck.

FBI finger printing (in reply to: PCC)
Do not get a FBI clearance certificate till CIC asks for it.
They will mention it to you when they give you the medical exam form.
If you submit the FBI clearance earlier then they it will expire in 3 months and you will have to go thru it again anyways.
Then best time is to get it done while the medical exam is under review.

You have to go for finger printing at a local police station or any designated place and send the finger prints to FBI at

Federal Bureau of Investigation,
Criminal Justice Information Services Division (CJIS Division),
Attn: SCU, Mod. D-2,
1000 Custer Hollow Road,
Clarksburg, West Virginia, U.S.A., 26306.

Send US$18.00 along for processing.

Here the link from the buffalo website : http://www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca/can-am/menu-en.asp?act=v&mid=5&cat=68&did=398

Read the whole thing. Do your homework.

TIP: When you have submited your finger prints to FBI. Call them in a couple days and ask them to expediate it and give them a dead line. They will process it faster. I got mine done in 2 weeks.

Hope it helps.

Cheers,
