Subject: Q to Sharon about proof of funds...
Hi Sharon, just to continue from another thread (the maximum 10 answer was reached!)....

(Just for anyone else reading this, I have got my $9,800 on my account that I need as proof of funds. However I also have a sizeable amount of debt on my credit card that it´s going to take probably 3 months to pay back. I will remain above the $9,800 mark at all times. I will be using future paychecks to pay the debt back, rather than touching that $9,800)

Anyway, back to Sharon! You advised me to get my application in to the Paris office as soon as possible even though I have got outstanding debt on my credit card. You said that they don´t care about my "current financial situation". How can this be? Surely they are going to want to see see that I am debt free and are going to want to see that my finances are really in order? Do you mind me asking how you know this? Does anyone else have any experience?

I am really pinning a lot of hope on getting out to Canada and I´d hate to apply now, and then get a request for further proof financial from the Paris office and then have them suspect I am not being 100% honest or transparent.

Just for the record, by the time I am expecting to land (if i get a visa!) I expect to have at least $20,000 as landing funds...

Could you just clarify please, Sharon. I hate to be pernickety, but I am sure you understand I want to make this application as clean, smooth and straighforward as possible... Many thanks for your advice!

there is no place on the forms where it asks your net worth. It only asks you to show that you have cash to land in Canada. There may be some privacy restrictions about what information they can demand from you. I know they cannot go directly to your bank - you must supply any requested documents.

As you have already said... your net worth will change over the course of your application. I am sure that is very true for most people. People sell a house or a car, they save additional funds while they wait... I think it is too hard for CIC to assess. They make it simple - ´show me the money!´ Just make sure it remains in your account. They may ask at various points in your assessment for confirmation of funds. We got asked 3 different times - likely because $9,800 is 2 years wages in Tunisia. People are know to borrow it just long enough to show a bank balance and then pay it back again. Bad, bad, bad. CIC is not stupid.

Just to add what Sharon said.
I had a letter of my bank manager with my application, saying I was a good client of her and there were never any problems.
If you can have your bank manager do the same,CIC just loves that.

hi sharon,

there is a personal networth statement form that we filled out everytime cic required us a docs updates. i did that several times until the last time we have our medicals, paid landing fee, and this last time on Sep. 2004, we have to show the unencumbered fund of C$22K bec. we are 6 total in a family. i applied in cic manila and got aor dec. 2000.
i don´t know in other cic if there is this kind of form, no letterhead, but just a title "PERSONAL NETWORTH STATEMENT", maybe required only in cic manila.

Why do you have to tell them that you have credit card debts...

Just dont tell them about it...

"IMM0008 schedule 3 apt. 10 -Funds-
Amount of unencumbered transferable and available funds you have, in Canadian Dollars"

Says "you have", not "you will have". Anyway, Swissguy, they don´t ask for proofs at this stage. Just make sure you will have the funds when landing.
