Subject: Eloping in Canada between 2 working permit holders
My situation is that I am on a working permit in Toronto (citizenship Australian). My girlfriend is on a working permit in Winnipeg (citizenship South Korean). We want her to come to Toronto to be with me. Since we have never shared a lease, accounts or anything that would be jointly in our names, I am not sure that we could be eligible for common law status, even though we have been together for two years and have been in Canada for one of those years. So we thought about eloping.

Can we elope inside Canada and still both stay in Canada? Is there anything I need to know?

Thanks for reading!
Ryan

someone is going to have to apply as a skilled worker and then sponsor the partner. Given that both of you are non PR´s, there is no status given to you by virtue of a Canadian marriage certificate.
