| Subject: police certificate from India |

I am living in US at present(Indian citizen) and Trying to get police certificate from India.i had sent the application form to D.C office and they returned it back
asking for the Passport(not the photocopy..but the actual passport).Can someone tell me how long will they take to return the passport back?It´s kinda scary to send the actual passport, even by regesitered mail.Thanks.

Hi,
Even in India also they ask for Passport. There are two options:
1. If you are in India and ask for PCC to concern Police station where you live in, they can issue.
2. If you go to Passport office and ask for PCC they will take Passport for 1-2 days and return back with PCC.
3. If your passport is issued from other office (means Issued from Mumbai and applying in Chandigarh) then they do Police Enquiry where you live at present and then they issue PCC and Passport will be returned with PCC.
I experienced the same in India.

Brother just go to indian consulate near to u that´s it.They will tell u .It´s fees in only 20 bucks and if u deposit u r indian passport in indian consulate they give u PCC in 30 days otherwise it can take 40 to 50 days

You need to send the original passport to Indian consulate, since they stamp on the passport. When applying you can send the photocopy of the passport, after 30 days you need to submit the passport to get the PCC

He is right..go to nearest consulate....they take copies first with $20 and u fill the forms for Misc. Services. DO not forget to mention that you require this for canada immigration. After 30 days you could go with original passport and they stamp it ..and also give you paper certificate. If nearest consulate is DC...then probably what u r doing is the best.
