Subject: Documents asked by Buffalo
  Hi guys

I am an international student in US pursuing MS?..I had applied for immigration in June 2004 and I got a letter from the consulate today asking for copy of my masters degree and proof of English proficiency (IELTS).
I will not be completing my masters for another six months and moreover I have more that 67 points without a master?s degree
and as for the English proficiency proof I had submitted my TOEFL scores along with a letter explaining my English proficiency at the time of application.
The letter from the consulate states that if I don?t submit the asked documents or an explanation for them within 60days they will cancel my application.
Please advise if I should take the IELTS or should I send a written explanation with TOEFL scores again?

Thanks for your response

Luke

Luke:

As you have mentioned, you had already submitted your TOEFL score and explanation to support your english language skills. Whatever the immigration officer has sought now is based on the information that you already provided him before. So re-submitting your TOEFL score or giving one more explanation at this stage won´t help you much.

My suggestion is that take IELTS as soon as possible.

Yijie, he´s been accepted to a MS in the US and read his English, of course he knows English!!!

I suspect that they are asking for IELTS because that´s the test commonwealth countries prefer, as opposed to the US. Typical Immigration officers are robotic, non-thinking machines, who have no brains, and are trained to do nothing different from the book.

Just, do your IELTS, you will be fine, of course. As for the MS, try to get a letter from your DGS or Department Chair, stating you are close. You might also want to send a copy of your transcripts.

Good luck
