Hi,

After a successful interview, you will be asked to do medicals (if not already done). In the meantime, background-check process will be going on. After you pass medical tests and a successful background-check you will get the passport request.

Background-check check may take 2 to 12 months.

After passport request, it takes around 2-3 weeks to get your passport back.

The time depends mainly upon the background check and medical reports receiving.

After the interview (in reply to: After the interview to move to Canada)
Hello Sanrup,

Thanks very much for your prompt response. I think I may have a problem:

My work permit expires on Dec 2005. If I can´t extend it I have to go back home. How does this affect my application?

Thanks again for all your help.

Hi,

If you have got the decision about approval through interview before your leaving the country then you can give someone´s address as corrospondance. That way you don´t have to loose the race.

But if you transfer your file (that under the new provisions, depends upon the visa officer and related CIC - they can refuse to transfer the file) then you will obviously have to wait more!

After the interview (in reply to: After the interview to move to Canada)
Hi Sanrup,

Thanks for your feedback. I did get a letter on May 19th stating that my file was transferred to the Canadian Consulate General in New York. So it´s safe to assume that I will get an interview before Dec (before my work permit expires). After that, and correct me if I am wrong, I could move back home, do the rest of the paper work through someone in New York, then move to Canada directly (from my country)? Also, I have spent my last 10 years in New York, don´t you think that the background check should be easy to perform?

Thanks

Hi,

Your file has been transferred to the nearest location to you. CIC NY will assess the file for the interview decision.

You can move back and enter Canada later on.

Background-check not only depends upon the current location but greatly depends upon the past countries you lived. If those countries are/were involved in war; or politicaly instable then it might take longer.

Hope this helps.
