Subject: Almost there, but now I plan on getting married
Hi I´ve come close to getting my skilled worker permanent residentship application approved (I submitted medicals and all the rest of the requested documents in late December).
But now I plan on getting married.
My question is if I should get married before or after I get the permanent residentship? What are the problems that await me if I choose one or the other path?

is there any chance that your partner could get a visitors visa? You have some choices. Get married, add your partner and wait the time that will be required to adjust your application. Option 2... find a way for your partner to obtain a visitors visa, get married in Canada and then apply for an inland sponsorship. Option 3. Land, then marry your partner and begin sponsorship. At this point, they would have to stay in their home country during processing.

I applied in buffalo. I´m thinking about immigrating to canada, then getting married and sponsoring my wife. I´m even thinking that I could move to Canada for a month sponsor her from there, get back to US and stay with her while she gets her application approved, and then move to canada with her. I´m just afraid that Canadians would have some requirements which would delay the application process, e.g. they would require me to get a job in Canada or would have some requirement as for how long I should live in Canada before I could sponsor my wife.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Stefan

The best thingI can say is that if you get married now (before you are issued a immigrant visa) then you can add your wife in the forma dn then she will have to give only the medicals and her notorized documents (plus 550+975 in fees) and then both of you can land togather.

If you do it later then the time period will increase... more waiting time for you and her...

Second thing is that you cannot leave Canada and stay in US and wait for her file to get thru... that is not acceptable...

Its a crazy CIC law...

hi sharon,

just an inquiry on the options (option 3) you have given Stefan, how long would it take for the sponsorship before being approved?

In similar situation as stefan (in reply to: Almost there, but now I plan on getting married)
Hi,

I am in a similar situation as stefan. I am almost there interms of having sent my medicals, FBI clearance and Police clearance certificates to CIC Buffalo in December 2004.

My would be wife is also in the US on an F1 (student visa). Due to certain constraints we cannot get married before June 2005. Also it is not possible for us to move to Canada for one week and get married there. To me the only option that looks feasible is to Land in Canada when my COPR comes and then submit the sponsorship application of my wife while myself being in US. But as someone suggested that is not possible.

Can I tell CIC to add my would be wife to my application ? We haven´t been living together so I have no records or proof about our relationship.

Please advise. Many thanks.
