Hi Ali,

You should be able to get a HK visa from the Chinese
Embassy in Karachi. Before you do anything, call them
up to be sure:

Chinese Consulate in Karachi, Pakistan
Address : PLOT NO.ST.20, BLOCK 4, CLIFTON KARACHI,
PAKISTAN
Country district code : 0092-21
Telephone: 5874266
Fax line : 5871835

Hope this helps.

Ali,

Pls also share your timeline. I am also applying from HK
and wish to have a better idea of how long the process takes. Did you apply thru the Skilled Workers category ?

By the way, if you really are unable to get a visa from
the Chinese Consulate, there is another option:

If you have a friend in HK willing to sponsor you for your visit to HK (so you can pick up your Canadian visa), then ask them to send you the proper application forms by mail.

Fill these up with all the required documents, photos, etc and send them back to him so he can put them in with the Immigration Dept. Alternatively, you can apply directly with the Immigration Dept in HK. Just note that this will
take time (at least the Airmail transit back and forth
and processing time).

If your Canadian PR is already approved, your best bet would be to get in touch with the Canadian Consulate in HK
and see if you could mail in your passport to them for
visa stamping, etc.

Hope this helps.

For Mashkur SB. (in reply to: Pakistani need Hong Kong visa)
Hi Mashkur ...
I was the one who started this posting and this place was a big help. All of the above people helped me in sorting out my ISSUE i.e. getting the HK visa.
Ok I will try to answer you questions one by one:
1. For visa you can write to HK imm dept. Their email is enquiry@immd.gov.hk
I sent them a note and got the below reply:
Dear Ali,

Thank you for your email message.

Under the present Hong Kong immigration law and policies, other than those having the Right of Abode (ROA) or the Right to Land (RTL) in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), visas are always required for the nationals of Pakistan if they intend to come to the HKSAR for whatever purposes (except in direct transit by air and when the person does not leave the airport transit area).

Besides, they must satisfy the immigration officer on arrival that they meet with normal immigration requirements and qualify for entry as bona fide visitors, including the possession of valid travel document with adequate returnability to his country of residence or citizenship, have adequate funds to cover the duration of visit without working, raise no security or criminal concerns to the HKSAR, have no likelihood of becoming a burden on Hong Kong and, unless in transit to the mainland of China or the region of Macau SAR, the holding of onward or return tickets.

Visitors are not allowed by law to take up employment (paid or unpaid), to establish or join in any business, or to enter school as a student, nor, except in the most unusual circumstances, are visitors allowed to change their immigration status after arrival.

Under the nomenclature of visit, sightseeing, shopping, social visit and business visit are allowed in Hong Kong. For business visit, it caters for activities of business negotiation, concluding contracts, attending meetings etc, but not engagement in day-to-day operation of a company or business establishment.

You may apply for the appropriate visa or entry permit from the nearest Chinese diplomatic and consular missions, where application forms are obtainable. Addresses of the Chinese diplomatic and consular missions overseas are available in our website
.

As an alternative, you may also submit your visa or entry permit application together with relevant supporting documents to the HKSAR Immigration Department (Receive and Despatch Unit, 2/F, Immigration Tower, 7 Gloucester Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong) either directly by post or through a local sponsor. To shorten processing time, application forms and supporting documents can be sent by fax to (852) 2824 1133 in the first instance. However, the original copy of the duly completed application form and the photographs required should be sent immediately to the HKSAR Immigration Department by air mail. A visa/entry permit will be issued only on receipt of an original, properly completed visa/entry permit application form. Each application will be considered on its own merits.

Normally, the supporting documents that should be enclosed with a visit visa application are:
(a) a completed form ID(E)936A, C & D;
(b) a photocopy of the applicant´s travel document, showing his/her personal particulars,
nationality, residential status in the country of residence, re-entry visa to the
country (if applicable), and date of issue and expiry of his/her passport;
(c) one identical photograph of the applicant in addition to the one affixed to the
application form;
(d) evidence of the applicant´s past residence in Hong Kong (if any); and

If a local sponsor is available:-
(a) a sponsorship for ID(E)936B completed and signed by the local sponsor;
(b) a copy of the sponsor´s Hong Kong identity card and/or travel document;
(c) evidence of the sponsor´s financial standing and relationship/acquaintance
with the applicant.

If you do not have a sponsor, please indicate it on the form C. In support of your application, the following documents may be useful in the assessment of your applications:
(a) proof of your present employment / business;
(b) proof of present financial standing;
(c) trip arrangement of your proposed travel, including accommodation and transportation
(ticket bookings) etc.

Further supporting documents may be required when necessary.

The entire processing time will take about 4 to 6 weeks. However, it varies from case to case and depends on the sufficiency of the supporting documents provided. Nomination of a local sponsor will assist us in conducting enquiries and avoid unnecessary delay. If there are justifiable grounds in support of the applicant´s priority processing, he may consider furnishing a written request together with documentary evidence substantiating the claim upon submission. Each application will be considered on its own merits.

If the application is submitted directly to the HKSAR Immigration Department while the applicant is unable to name any local sponsor to pay the visa fee, he/she may consider to submit a cashier order or bank draft in Hong Kong currency in the amount of HK$135 made payable to ´The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region´ together with the entry permit application. The cashier order or bank draft should be drawn from a bank which has a connected bank in Hong Kong. I am sorry that neither cashier order/bank draft in other currency (like in $US) nor e-payment (like credit card) is acceptable.

If the application is successful, a visit visa label will be sent directly to the applicant or issued to his local sponsor who will be asked to arrange for it to be sent to the applicant. The visa is normally valid for a single entry within three months form the date of issue. If the applicant wishes to have double or multiple entries to Hong Kong, he may make a request in his visa application for our consideration. The applicant must present the visa label together with his valid passport to the immigration officer upon arrival in Hong Kong.

The Application Form for Visa / Entry Permit for the HKSAR ID(E)936A-J is available for downloading at Such forms and guidance notes may also be downloaded from the internet at
< http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/public_7.htm >
< http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/id(e)936.htm > and
< http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/id(e)937.htm > respectively.

I hope you will find the above information useful. May I take the opportunity of wishing your coming trip to HKSAR would be a pleasant one.

Best regards,

** so all you need to do is download the forms and fill them out as mentioned. Send the package directly to HK and you should get your visa stickers in about a months time.

2. Weather there this time should be hot and humid but nights are cooler.

3. Hoteling can be very expensive depending on supply and demand. I was staying at Ramada Hotel Kowloon for $80/night. It was good and safe. If your family is with you then be safe. HK is a very very safe place but you dont need to ´ask for it´. Plus its very close to Nathan street (shopping)

4. You can take cathay, but it has a stop in karachi which is killing. I took Thai ... that was good, one stop in bangkok and then to HK

5. I think the HK $ was at Rs. 8/HK $ about a year ago, dont know about it now ... you dont need to have HK $´s ... plus you will not find them in open market. take US dollars and you will be fine

It as good place. There is a disney land there now too so you can go there. Go to victoria peak, take the tram going up and then once you are up there take the bus to come down ... that way you can see both sides of the hill. But get the info before doing this.
Its a nice place so have fun.
