Hi Sharon,
I happened to go through your message on language skills. I would like to know if having done studies in Canada has a cutting edge on having studies done somewhere else? If accent is not a big problem then being able to communicate, write, and read English should do, is´t it? Well, i have my bachelors degree in English Literature (India) and i believe i have got good command of English. I have been working as a customer services associate for the past couple of years. Again, i am immigrating to Canada hoping that i will find a good job. Any advises from your part will be highly appreciated.

(in reply to: Query to Sharon) Unfortunately; accent is a big problem - especially in your field, i.e. customer service. However the good news is - over a period of time you can adopt to it.
I was watching a documentary reg. accent adapting classes in India for telecom service specialists - why don´t you sit in these?
What are your skills otherwise? I´m afraid English Lit. does not really buy much in job market in west - unless you agree on teaching.

(in reply to: Query to Sharon) Take all Canadians having an accent out of Canada and you´re left with a very poorly populated enourmously big chunk of land :)
As long as you´re understandable and understand well what others are saying it doesn´t mean a thing if you got an accent.

(in reply to: Query to Sharon) John is right. take the accent out of Canada and there is nothing left. Being understood is everything. I know many folks from India who were educated in english. They do very well here.
