Subject: criminal record US and Costa Rica |

I am 27 years old. When I was 18 I got into a fight and eventually was prosecuted and sentenced to 100 hours of community service, which I completed, of course. Since then I lived in 2 other countries (US and Costa Rica), from which I can get a certificate of good conduct.
My question is this, will this ruin my chances of getting a permanent residency? How important is this to the Visa officers? My wife will be the principal applicant, but they ask about any criminal record of any member of the family. What do you think?
