Subject: Are Certifications recognized in Canada? |

Hey Everybody,
I intend to certify myself in CIA (Certified Internal Audtior) designation from the US since I work in the accounting profession. By doing these certifications like CPA,CIA,CMA etc plus having experience in the accounting field, will it be difficult to get a job even though i know this topic has been posted by several people that getting a job after landing in canada for a couple of months to a year is very difficult. Some have even said it is a waste of money coming to canada.
I am hoping for some valuable advice.
Thanks

(in reply to: Are Certifications recognized in Canada?) your profession is governed by a regulatory body. It is no different than a Canadian trained auditor wishing to go and work in the US, Europe, India, or the moon. You need to get licenced. You are dealing with law and regulations so you must prove your competency.
If you are not anticipating this requirement... you are not being realistic.
Does that make Canada a waste of time?

Qualified auditors (in reply to: Are Certifications recognized in Canada?) Don´t worry
There is a high demand for qualified auditors in Canada. CIA is a designation that is recognized in most countries, and also in Canada. It´s different from other designation, in the sense that it´s not specific to a single country. Internal Auditors, all over the whole, take this exam for qualification.
Because of SOX (Sarbanes Oxley) certification requirement for public companies, it has generated demand for auditors to assist in this task.
I advise you to look for postings in Public accounting firms, but the working hours is horrendous. But you´ll gain a quick foothold in the job market.
The other advantage of being a qualified CIA, is that your name and contact information becomes available to HeadHunters. If you say that you have an accounting/audit background, then you would be swarmed with more than 30 calls within 3 days, if you post your resume in the following website
www.workopolis.ca
www.monster.ca
It´s not a question of if you´re going to find a job as an auditor, rather a question of which one would be suitable for you. Therefore, Good Luck on your selection
