Subject: Can I delay the time of entry to canada/
Hi, I got the PR to canada stamped on my pasport in fall of 2004. I am suppose to immigrate to Canada by this month end. Is there in way to delay it, I am not quite ready yet, I need to delay it for atleast six month. Is it possible? Can some one help.

Thanks, Asher.

From the CIC website.

Arriving in Canada
When you come to Canada, you must show your Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) to a Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) officer at the Port of Entry. The officer will make sure your travel and immigration documents are correct.

The CIC officer will check that your visa has not expired. You cannot use a permanent residence visa after it expires. The expiration date is shown on the visa. Permanent residence visas cannot be extended, so make sure you use your visa in the proper time.

Looks like I have to ask my money back for not immigrating to Canada. It is so insane, I am not ready to immigrate by end of March at all. Does anyone knows that if I withdraw and I get refunded. Can I apply for PR again for the future? Will the application be denied in that case or conversely, will it have faster and better chance of processing?
Thanks for your help guys, I never reasearched in Canadian immigration before.

Before you throw it all away, call the Canadian embassy and put your question to them along with your reasons. Perhaps all you need to do is ´land´ and then go back home to complete your agenda.

I didn´t time it well enough I guess. I applied in Jan 2003 and got call for medical in Feb. 2004. I wanted to immigrate in Dec. 2005. With the projected time frame one can be never to sure when would they get the visa. I will try one of the suggestions to send the letter the canadian immigration asking for extension with reasons or else refund. I would not try and mess with the system, like landing in Canada and coming back for 6-9 months and then going back. May be I need to go thru the application procedure again. Is it possible though?

If you are really serious about immigrating to Canada in 6 to 9 months (as you say) or even 1 to 2 years you SHOULD land in Canada before your visa expires and become PR.

To maintain PR you have to stay in Canada for 2 years out of 5. By using this rule you are not messing up with the system.

First try and request an extention of the visa to land in Canada. If this works, great. If it doesnt you have no choice but land in Canada or loose your PR.

You can always apply again but who knows how much time it will take in future OR if there will be any change in rules!

don´t be hopeful about any refund. The process has been completed in good faith by the Canadian government - what is there to refund?

Refund Info...from Buffalo's website (in reply to: Can I delay the time of entry to canada/)
REFUNDS

Processing Fees are Non-refundable:
The Department of Citizenship and Immigration charges fees to partially recover the cost of providing some of these services to the public. Since the processing fee helps defray the cost of processing your application it cannot be refunded even if your application is unsuccessful or you withdraw your application before it has been concluded.

Right of Permanent Residence Fees are Refundable:
The Right of Permanent Residence Fee is paid for the right to obtain permanent resident status in Canada. The fee is partial compensation for the many benefits and privileges that permanent resident status confers. This fee will be refunded for unsuccessful immigrant applications or for those who withdraw or otherwise abandon immigration to Canada before the visa has been used. Right of Permanent Residence Fee refunds are issued by the office that concluded your application. Right of Permanent Residence Fee refunds for all Family Class applications are issued by the Case Processing Centre in Mississauga.

The Canadian Consulate General issues Right of Permanent Residence Fee refunds in the form of a U.S. dollar cheque, made payable to the principal applicant. There are no exceptions.

Once you get your PR you have to spend a minimum of 3 years in Canada out of 5 to retain it. You can travel to Canada before your schedule date, get the necessary paper work done which may take about a month, there are lot agencies that provide help. Once your paper work is in order you can leave Canada, finish your pending work back home and get back again.

Don´t throw in the towel, many folks will give an arm & leg to be in your position.

Folks thanks a lot for so many good advices. I do appreciate this a lot. I will try and extend it through requesting. Does any one knows how to do it? I do understand the complications I am in. Although, I think landing in Canada and staying for a month is not possible with my current circumstances. I do not have multiple entry visa, it is a single entry and I have to give good reason to get out and get back again at later time. I know every one is fighting to get this visa. I wish you all good luck. I wish that I could substitute someone on this visa as oppose to getting the refund, but if I cannot get anything out of it, atleast I should get my money back.
