Subject: Processing is finished - PR card question
I am proud to say that my case has been finalized and the PR visa is ready to be issued to my husband. I received a 10 page fax today from Paris requesting his passport. He will fly to Paris next Wednesday (March 16) to get the visa put in his passport. Then March 20th we will make his "landing" in Canada and hope to have moved by the end of summer.

However, I have a question regarding the PR card. For two weeks we will be in Canada visiting my parents and then will return home to Switzerland to finalize everything for the move and quit our jobs (We have to give 3 months notice). I doubt that his PR card will arive by the time our holidays are over and I know you can not re enter Canada unless you have the PR card. Is there another type of document he can get to enter Canada when we are ready to move??? Any help you can give me in this matter is greatly appreciated.

I just want to say thanks to everyone for their help during the last couple months. I wish everyone good luck with their applications.

Take care,

Danielle

Maybe your husband should delay his ´landing´ until the summer when you intend to come permanently. He could come with you to Canada as a visitor and then return home and then come back and ´land´. That way the PR card is not an issue.

Or, if you really want him to land in March, he can. It is very unlikely that the PR card will be ready for him in time. This is not a real problem. If you go the CIC web site and look under PR card, you will see the following:

´Permanent residents seeking to return to Canada who are without a permanent resident card may contact the nearest Canadian visa office to obtain a limited use travel document to re-enter Canada at a cost of $50 for each one´.

So it is all possible, just a bit of more effort. Whichever Canadian visa office is closest to you in Switzerland will give him the travel document to re-enter Canada.

Good luck
