  Hello Friends

My Landing Experience

I am from India (Kashmir) and I have been working in US (New York) on H1 Visa since last 5 years.
We landed on the 5th of March 2005 from Rainbow Bridge at Niagara Falls, NY. We mean me, my wife and my 7 months old daughter :).
We have rented two way rental car from Avis since I am working in Upstate New York, the rental car was having Canadian License Plate, which I have requested from Avis.

At the US immigration counter the officer told me they do not need to check anything, Please Proceed and Enjoy, but they will check when we will come back to States.
It was wonderful day sunny and we crossed the Border at 1:15am Saturday and the lady at the toll gate on the Canadian side told gave me yellow slip and directed me towards the Immigration building.
The immigration officer (Lady) was wonderful and pleasant to talk to and they were very polite. She checked my papers (COPR) and asked me is there any mistake in the document, for which I replied in negative and then she told me do I have any address in Canada where we can send you the PR cards, I gave her the address of my friend with whom we were going to stay in Mississauga.

After that she told me what your profession is, I replied that I am working as a Software Engineer, she smiled and told me have you started looking for the job, I told her yes I am already looking for the job.

After that she asked me do I have proof of funds with me, I replied in affirmative and she just took a look at my bank drafts and my bank statement.
After that we just discussed some little social things and finally she gave me the Stamped COPR papers with the status updated as Landed. Then she told me that it will take 4 to 6 weeks to get the PR card delivered to your address in Canada,
After that she told us "Welcome to Canada" and good luck and directed me towards the Custom Officer.
The custom officer was a jolly and very pleasant guy and he made me feel comfortable and at home. He asked me do I have a car to declare, I replied that I will be bringing my car in July when I will be moving to Canada for Good. He then asked me the List of Goods to Follow, I had taken my list of goods to Follow in form of Spreadsheet (Microsoft XLS), and have categorized the goods under various categories like Electronics, Furniture, Car, House Good, Baby Stuff, Valuables (Gold\Silver) etc. The officer was really happy and appreciated that I have made such a fine document.
He then stamped all the pages of my ?List of Good to follow? and gave me a completed custom form, He kept one copy of my ?List of Good to Follow? for Records and other one he gave to me. After that he told us welcome to Canada.
We then spend some time at the Canadian Fall which is at a walking distance from Rainbow Bridge and then drove to our friend?s house.

On Monday we went to Social Security Office and applied for our SS card, the only document they asked us was the COPR and our passports. They told us the SS card will be mailed to us in two weeks as the same address where we were staying.
Same afternoon we opened a bank account.

We started back towards US on Tuesday morning and it was Sunny high upper 40, the sun was beautiful and we were very pleased that after a long wait of two years we have finally made it.

As it was expected, while coming back we crossed from the different route that is Lewiston Bridge (Lewiston and Rainbow bridge are 4 miles form each other, both the bridges lead to US and vice versa ), the US immigration officer was nice and told me how I am doing and how is the family doing, What was the purpose of this Visit (Visiting college Friend ) and then asked me from which country was I from , I replied from India, he then took a quick look at the three passports and gave theme back to us, he then told us are we bringing anything from Canada, I replied in negative and he replied back please proceed and have a wonderful day.

Then we crossed the Lewiston Bridge and it was 10:32 am Tuesday morning and we were back in States and it was exciting experience.

Enjoy
Basharat

Dude,

What was your time-line?
Also please give some advise on possible jobs in Software/ systems analyst. Skill-sets include C, C++, Perl, Java, Oracle, MySQL. What else should one need to get a job in Canada?

Intention to stay (in reply to: My Landing Experience)
I´m somewhat amused by the fact that you landed and stayed for just enough time to apply for all the necessary documentation and then packed up and went back to USA.

I assume that it´s just a short term plan on your part to stay in US, and that you really do have the intention to become Canadian resident. Otherwise, why apply for Canadian immigration, in the first place?

Immunization records (in reply to: My Landing Experience)
Hi Basharat,

I got my passports (me, my wife & 2 yr old son) stamped in March, 2005 and now I am planning to land in Canada from Buffalo by car.
During stamping along with COPR, I had received "Immunization Record - applicants under 16 years of age" document. It says applicant´s responsibility to have this form completed and certified by a qualified health professional before departing for Canada.

With whom I should get certified this document. With regular my son´s Pediatrician doctor or Canada site listed doctor? Can you please clarify me, if you had done this for your daughter.
Thanks
