Subject: What should i bring to the border? |
Hello All,
I am going to land in a few days. I was just wondering what kind of documents should I bring other than passport and Confirmation of Perminant residence?
By the way, I am in Toronto, I will be landing through Niagara Bridge.
Thanks

(in reply to: What should i bring to the border?) Must have:
1) Your passport with PR visa.
2) COPR from CIC (Document which CIC must have sent).
3) Settlement Funds (CDN $10,000 >) - if single and so on.
4) Address where PR Card can be sent (In Canada).
Really not required, but good to keep:
1) Copies of all documents you filed for application.
2) List of things to follow (which you will bring in Canada later).
3) Some Passport size photos; copies of Passport; Visa;
Keep in mind to do the following as soon as you can:
1) Apply for Social Security Card.
2) Open a bank account.
3) If from US see if you can get a Drivers License.

(in reply to: What should i bring to the border?) As for the drivers licence...
if you are from the US, as I am, it is very simple to get a drivers licence. That is assuming you´ve driven for more than 2-3yrs.
All you need to do is take your US drivers licence to a drivers center [don´t remember what they are called up here] and they will exchange them. The fee I believe is $75CND.
They really want to exchange them but my problem is that I have a car down in the states and cannot get rid of my drivers licence since the vehicle is registered under my name. Who knows....
