  Just for Kicks...

Is it cheaper to buy a car in Canada or buy one from the U.S. and import when you first come in as an immigrant.

Let us say Honda Accord - In U.S. you can get for appox. US$ 17,000 and around 3%-4% APR (assuming a good credit record).

Please advise what is the price of Accord in Canada and at what APR can you get one?

oh course, you will be able to import the car into canada unless their are no liens against its title, so interest rates are pretty irrelevant.

OK - if the title is clear; what is the price for a 2005 Honda Accord (Basic Model) and at what apr can you get it?

buying a US car and bringing it into Canada is not a small task. the car must be converted to metric and I believe there are some other issues as well. have a look at www.honda.ca. it will tell you the total retail price of a new car. Don´t forget to factor exchange rates.

how about just register in the U.S and drive to here? is that possible? for exchange rate? I think it´s better for us to go south, consider Canadian dollars are higher right now

Thanks all.

Yes, Canadian Dollar is up. Well it had to - for a long time it was kept undervalued.

However, this means bad for exports and tourist business in Canada. Is there any news to devalue the Canadian Dollar?

What is the deal with oil prices in Canada? Are people freakin´ out as in the US? Does Canada has it´s own oil reserves?

I know Canada has a better public transport system than the US - but is it limited to the big 5 cities or is kind of routine in all places as well?

no rumblings to devalue our dollar. We are fighting to keep the value down but the US economy is in so much debt and things are so politically difficult that Canada looks like paradise in comparison! It is slowing down our exports but only to the US... other places are fine and Canada needs to smarten up about its trade balance anyway.

as for gas prices... sure we are complaining but that is our national pastime. we have so many taxes on our gas. it is about 95 cent a litre today and there is about 4 litres to a gallon. Still complaining about the US prices????

Alberta is full of oil. BC has huge offshore oil and gas reserves that we have not even started to drill. The atlantic provinces are sitting on oil as well. Sure, high world prices affect our costs.

as for transporation... the big cities have good transit systems. for the most part they are well utilized. when you get to the suburbs things fall apart a little bit but we are working on it.

Place like my town Nanaimo? Can you believe how crazy is the public transportation service?
No service on holiday (christmas, new year) limited service on Sunday from 10:00am to 5:00pm.

Most of bus routes only service for once a hour.
It´s expensive too, 47 dollars for a month pass.
I rided my bike for three year before I owned the car.

Still, in small towns, most of people own car, just impossible to take bus if you need go to work, you know?
If you need hang out on Sunday, physcially impossible in my town, god damn it.
