  Dude,

I was wondering (just for kicks as usual) - if it is better to get my kick ass TV, Home Theater, DVD Recorder etc. from US or buy as I settle (hopefully) in Canada?

What are local taxes on buying these items in Canada? Are these the same price or less (more) in price than the U.S?

I just want to cut the transportation (if I can) from all the way from sunny Texas!!

BTW, happy spring break Dude!! We are enjoying a great sunny party outside with temp in 70s!!

Take Care,

Where are you trying to move to by the way? Did you check with some move company?
Compare a price before decide to move or not.

Local price? GST +PST, usually ends up around 14?15% depends on which province do you plan to settle down. ]

If I were you, consider if those big items are brand new or quite old. New life in Canada is kind of challenge, if you can save money, just don?t move them.

I don?t even have a cable line and DVD player at home. My girlfriend and I think it?s better for kid to grow up without stupid TV. After dinner, we usually go out for a walk alone beach or read some fiction at home.

It?s damn hot in Nanaimo too, 12c on March, come on, consider most of region in Canada still has quite amount of snow.

because Vancouver is 35 minutes from the US border, at Christmas time, they aways do the cost comparisons for big ticket items.

As a Canadian, we must pay GST and provincial sales tax when returning to Canada. On some items you do better with US purchases. However, they always caution that your US warranty is not valid in Canada.

checkout www.futureshop.ca. it is one of our big westcoast appliance, tv stores. It is owned by Best Buy. You should get some comparisons. The Canadian dollar exchange might be the clinching factor for you.

This is what I would do...

Compare the cost of equivalent products in Canada. Check the prices online...

Add 15% in Taxes... Now do you think its worth the efforts...

As you are importing all used and personal merchandise I am not sure if you will have to pay a lot in duties...

But make sure you do invest in good jackets... You will need it in Canada... Specially if you are moving from Texas...
