Subject: Can I leave Canada before receiving PR Card
  Hi, everyone:

I plan to landing soon. As I am on H1 visa, I cannot stay too long in Canada. I plan to hunt for jobs and when I find one, then move to Canada permanently.

Is it legal to leave Canada one week after landing? Would I be able to come back to Canada later if anything happens to PR card? Say I don´t get PR card since it is lost in mail, would I be able to drive to Canada from US without maple card?

Thanks

It is all easy (in reply to: Can I leave Canada before receiving PR Card)
Dear Paranoid Friend,

I think you are worried more than you should be. Actually you should not be worried at all if you already got your passport stamped with the visa.

Here are the answers fo your question :

You CAN leave canada after landing, whenever you wish ( in my case it was next day) and it is perfectly legal.
Now how many instances you have after coming to USA or Canada when your mails got lost ? This country can not run if mail starts getting lost. So do not worry. Your PR card should reach safe and sound to your local Canada address and then your friend/relative can ship it to your US address.

Here are few things which you would like to do after landing formalities at border ( or airport immigration) :
1. Go to local HRD office and apply for SIN cards
2. GO to some local bank ( TD will be glad to open your accounts) and open your back accounts and deposit the draft which you are carrying. Now if you do not want to submit whole draft, then right from starting take two drafts and once draft you could come back with after depositing another to your new accounts. ( believe me Canadian dollar will not betray you in near future like USD is doing now a days).

Unlikely Situation: You came back to US after landing, your PR card is in process and you have some emergency to go back to Canada :

They have a proper process for this . You have to go to some canadian embassy and obtain a one time entry visa and you spend like $50 or so to get that.

EVERYTHING said above seems totally legal as per my knowledge.

P.S. Cut that bull shit man ....mail will get lost and all...RELAX

Hi roy:

Thanks for the information. Very helpful.

But I´ve heard if a new immigrant don´t have maple card, he can go back to Canada in private vehicles with a copy of Landing paper and passport, there is no need to apply for travel documents. Is this the truth?

Thanks

Hi Ron, you are simply great. Your suggestion was very helpful.
I will go to canada in June before my H1B expires. and i will return right away. One thing i didnt understand, why do I have to open a bank account if I dont stay there for a day or so.
Also, is it part of the entire process that you have to open a bank account? How am i going to take the money if I dont live in Canada for 2 yrs.
Also, is that true that PR cards are not suppose to mail outside Canada? Please, let me know.
