I wonder if you need any information related to Education major? My girlfriend is from Peterborough, and she is doing practicum right now. I can ask for first hand information. We went to same college, Malaspina University-College, Nanaimo. I think their education major is five years. Most of students ended up in the island. However, as you know liberal government shut down quite amount of elementary schools, it??s a little bid hard last several years. Not sure right now, because Island is booming, population of Nanaimo hiked from 50,000 when I arrived here three years ago to 79,900. Therefore, I still think there are opportunities here. You know what? I am neither Canadian, nor PR, still luckily found a job in Nanaimo; I am pretty sure person like you would not have trouble at all. Please remember, you can take interest-free student loan to go to college anytime and pay back from the 6th month of your graduation. Even people owned houses here also take student loan to go to college, because, when they graduate let??s say 5---8 yeas in the future, those amounts of money just not worth same amount right now. (Inflation, time value of money, student loan is interest-free) I am not sure about your age. Therefore, if your financial situation is not such trouble, you contributed CPP before. You would not end up in poverty I guess. Just go back to college have some re-training done and wait for paper work.

Paper work is kind of frustrated; my neighbor Linda from London Ontario (you see, so many Ontario people here) has pharmacy certificated, she is kind of middle age, her paper can??t transfer to B.C directly. She ended up being a manager assistant in Pizza hut. She is still complaining about paper work. Even it??s in the same country, don??t expect the system will transfer you smoothly. Same as immigrants from other country, you need a lot of paper work before your certificate is accounted by government here. There are too many regulated industry here.

Talking about TV? Well, usually at night, I either go to college get some reading done, or go to watch movie at cinema. Just watch CBC national online, that??s it. Quite a lot of residents have no cable at home too. As you know, our small town, always have tons of culture activities, festival to enjoy. Can??t help to watch April 5th, Juno. Because of our local talented Diana Krall, it??s big event here in our small town Nanaimo. Pubs in Nanaimo probably have big screen, people gonna gather together. We gonna watch Juno with Dianna??s mom. It??s just a small town, we know everybody.

Well, wish everything will get be fine for you.

Hi Yijie

Thanks for the reply.I am not worried about my education at all. I have a degree from McMaster University and another from Charles Sturt University (in Australia) I also have my teaching certification for Ontario.

My concern is about my wife. She has a Master´s degree in International Trade from a Polish university and she has 7 years experience. We fear that the Polish Master´s will not be recognised in Canada and she will have to go back to study. We have found a couple of programs that offer International Trade certificates and we are considering those. She trades with many companies in China and has been there three time for trade fairs. I think her experience and her contacts are more important than the education but I do not make the decisions.

I would prefer to start our life in Ontario since my family is there but she has her heart set on BC, especially Vancouver. We will discuss the pros and cons of each and see what we decide.
I want to thank you for helping us and for helping others. You make people feel better with your advice and help. Keep up the good work.

I talked to one of polish couples living in Nanaimo and working for a logging company here. I am pretty sure there is Polish community here.
I haven??t been to Ontario, I could not convince people too. I do know many residents here are from Ontario. I am not quite sure how your wife will like Ontario VS B.C.
If you guys are my ages (early 20s), don??t like location limited your vision. Anywhere is fine.

I do think connection and contact are so important in any industry. Vancouver has quite a lot of trade related industry. I think go back to college is not just for hard skills, you can know the people with connection, that??s the most important thing. That??s what I learn in my college, Bs and Cs get degree.

you might want to check out www.britishcolumbia.com
they have another forum which has more local people might know some connection.

Thanks again Yijie

My wife has been to Ontario twice and liked it but I think she would prefer BC. I would like to give BC a try but I am a little nervous about it. I think if we start in Ontario, close to my family for support, then move out west, things will be OK.

We are in our early 30s and open to live anywhere. You make your community as good or as bad as you want it.

My wife really wants to go back to university/college and study. She has been wanting to do it for some time. I think if we can find a Canadian school for her, it will make her happy. It will be very hard for her to move away from Poland. I also think if we can find a Polish community for her, that will help her in her transition.

I will check out that web address you gave me.

Have a great day!
THANKS!
