Subject: job prospects
I am kind of concerned about job prospects for landed immigrants. I have about 8 years experience (post Masters level) as a mechanical engineer in the US. I plan to do an MBA at Univ of Toronto after landing.
I have been doing some research regarding the unemployment level in Canada and professional licensing requirements for engineers. Can anybody help with the following questions:
1. Given that the general unemployment level stands at 7% in Canada (as opposed to 5% in US), what has been the job search experience of those who are already in Canada?
2. Is professional engineering license mandatory to work as an engineer? and Are there more jobs growth in public sector vs. private?
3. What are the opportunities after an MBA from a top tier school such as UofT?
4. What are the prospects of self-employment in Canada e.g. establishing engineering consulting. Are their small business loans available through banks and entrepreneurship encouraged?

your questions are probably too industry specific for us. try to google a canadian engineering association. that would likely be more helpful.
