I am a bit unsure of what you are asking for...

But there is the deal...
You can go in person or do it via mail... Either is fine... And you do not need to send your passport...

Just fill out the form and attach the required fees along with the apssport copy and you are all good...

The consulate will contact the Passport department from where the Passport had been issued and they will write you the Police clearance certificate at the consulate.

If your passport has been issued from D.C. itself then the whole process will expediate and you can expect the get the PCC withing 3-4 business days...

Once the PCC is prepared if your application was done thru mail, then the consualte will mail you the PCC.

Good Luck,
HS

Hi, Thanks much for the reply. In this link below(please scroll all the way down) it is mentioned that we have to send the original passport.I did not send as I wanted it for taking IELTS..I just sent my photocopy with the form.
My passport was issued in India. Are u sure that they don´t need the original passport? My understanding is that if you don´t send the original, you have to go in person to get it stamped.I am confused...please advice.

The Passport has to be sent in Original for stamping. Make sure you mention you wish to get No Objection for Canada as they will stamp passport and also give certificate for Canada.

Do not send a copy.

The above response is confusing. Does the consulate stamp something on the passport if I request a PCC? My understanding was that the PCC was a seperate document with no relation with the passport.

Can you pl clarify?

Thanks,

KG

KG: I am sure that passport has to be stamped and I myself got confused when I got reply 1.If your passport is from India, then it has to be stamped here in U.S once you receive the clearence from the office which issued your passport in India.
My question is, when should I go for stamping?
If somehas has gone for stamping in person, please let me know.Thanks....

A lot of confusion here... I am lost already...

But anyways here is my deal...

I got PCC twice from the Indian consulate in Toronto... they only gave me a letter (both times) stating that there is no adverse record for this person that makes him ineligible( I think that the word) for issuance of a visa for travel.

Hi,

you will have to apply with the Original passport. The consulate will keep the passport in their custody (they will inform you how long). After that they will issue a PCCc in the Embassy letterpad which you have to send to Canadian Embassy. Also in one page of the passport, they will mention PCC has been issued.

PCC has to be done from the office where your passport has been issued, in case you are in India. I got it done from Chandigarh. I submitted the application in morning and got the PCC letter at 2 PM the same day. Looks like Chandigarh office is really fast. My passport was 6 yrs old.
Also, they do put a stamp in passport stating PCC issued for XYZ country.
If outside India, you need to send the original to consulate and you will get PCC in a month. They will also stamp the passport. I got mine from New York consulate 3 months back and it took me 1 month.
