Subject: Work Experience letter from current employer
I am planning to apply for Canadian PR at Buffalo.
Unfortunaltely, I cannot get a reference letter from my current employer for immigration or even if I tell something else I might get in to trouble if CIC calls the empoyer for verification.
I am planning to explain the reason why I cannot submit as stated in Buffalo checklist and attach my pay stubs and other work documents.

I wish to get advise from this forum from those who had a successful application without a current employement reference letter.

Please help. Thanks very much in advance.

Hi Sean,

That is not an issue. Just write a written explanation in a separate sheet of paper stating that you would not like to reveal to current employer that u r immigrating so as to not affect prospects.

I also did the same. I recently sent in my application. However, do submit copies of your appointment letter and recent payslip.

all the best in ur application process.

Hi Rakesh,
It´s very comforting to hear someone else is in the same boat as mine.
Thanks very much for your suggestions and wishes.

My best wishes for your application.

Also, can you tell me how long it took for you to get the FBI Fingerprint result(if you had applied from US). I need to apply to submit my application to CIC.

Thanks very much for all the help.

Hi Sean,

I am not telling this to scare you, just sharing my experience. I was in the same situation, applied in Jan 2003, stating I cannot get a letter from the current employer. Everything went fine and also my interview was waived. But before the PP request they asked for a list of documents to be submitted and one of them was a letter from the current employer.

So I requested a letter from my employer without any mention of Canada or CIC, the letter stated "To who ever it may concern"
It listed my date of employment, salary, job and role, etc.. in my company letter head. I had to send that letter before they asked for my Passport. After that everything went smoothly...and as a fairy tale....happily everafter.

Even if you don´t get that letter today, be prepared to get that at a later point of time (definitely before PP request). I did apply thru´ Buffalo CIC.

I had to take FBI fingerprint twice. The first time it took just 3 weeks (Oct 2002), the second time (Apr 2004) it took almost 10 weeks. I had to call them and enquire few times before i got the fingerprints.

I know you didn´t want to hear the above, but thats the truth. So with the initial application, send a letter stating that you cannot submit a letter from current employer, and later if they don´t ask you, think yourself, the luckiest person in the world.

Good luck.

Hi Mili/Rakesh,

Thanks very much for all your inputs. Sorry that (Probably was in too much of canada dreams!) I posted a wrong info.(FBI) in my reply instead of posting it in the FBI subject post.

My sincere apologies on that.

Hi Mili,
I am really scared about the Employer letter in the final stages. Let´s see what happens. I have to apply for the FBI fingerprint to submit the application.

Thanks very much for your wishes.
