| Subject: Waiting for PR approval- apply for student visa? |

My family has been waiting for almost two years (applied April 2003) for approval of our business class/self-employed application for PR. Since we think it is likely we´ll be approved sometime this year we want our daughter to get started in college in Canada, and in fact she has been accepted at a university there. Assuming we don´t hear from CIC soon, is it reasonable to have her apply for a student visa to make sure she can begin classes in the fall? I also plan to go with her as a visitor when she begins, fully aware of the 6 month limit.

Situation looks the same here.
I am waiting for my PR as a family class and hoping to receive it before September for I was accepted to a university in Canada.
According to the processing time on CIC website, I will probably be accepted AROUND August-September. For me, one month makes a big difference since the tuition fee for international students is three times as much as that for PR :(
I am going to apply for student visa in June if I didn´t hear nothing from immigration by then. It takes time to get a student visa. And without visa, you cannot start your study in the university.

Lin, Have you received any legal advice about whether applying for the student visa has any negative effect on the existing application for PR? And yes, we face that extra $3000 fee and it certainly will hurt!

No I haven´t even thought about it. But I do not think it should be a problem though.
I hope both of us become PR very soon :)
