Subject: I got my PR!
I wanted to say thank you for the help I received from this site. I received my PR visa this week and we will be moving later this summer. I was sponsored by my wife who is a Canadian citizen living in the US. Here is my timeline:

Sent application: 10-1-04
Sponsorship approved: 11-8-04
AOR: 11-28-04
Interview waived
Processing complete/request for passport: 3-2-05
Passport returned with visa: 3-22-05

So, overall it was about six months from when we submitted the application to receipt of the visa. Pretty good! We did it ourselves without a lawyer. It also helped that we paid the landing fee up front.

I should also add that in early Feb they requested proof of Canadian citizenship for our children. Luckily we had already gotten citizenship cards for them from the consulate, otherwise it would have added another delay.

Hey Kurt,

Could you please tell me what proof your provided about your wife´s intention of residing in canada when you get your pr. Please let me know as my wife´s sponsorship approval is taking longer than i expected.

This is not good, they don´t seem to have
spent any time on your background checks , just
because you applied under spouse category , why
do they spend so much time in backgroud checks for skilled
workers, it is baffling to me....

Dear JKS,
We did not have any of the proof they requested to show my wife´s intention to move back to Canada. No property or mortgage in Canada, no job offers, etc. Instead my wife provided a letter stating her intentions to move. The letter explained that it was not feasible to line up a job or buy property in Canada at the time of the application, since we could not move until we got the visa which was months away.

We did give evidence that we had a real estate agent retained in the states to help sell our home when the time comes, and one lined up in Canada to help us purchase a home when we arrive. We also gave evidence that my wife´s family lives in the area to which we plan to relocate.

Finally we gave evidence that my wife does not work, but stays home raising our children, and therefore it did not make sense for her to stay here if I moved to Canada. In line with this I showed evidence that I had applied for a professional license in Canada, so that I could get a job when I arrive.
