Subject: visit to USA
  Hi there!
Im an international student studying in UBC, Canada. My course of study included two terms from Sept to April. Ive my valid visa till Aug 31, 2005. In that case I wish to visit USA before going back to India after my school is finished here. So I would like to know how can I apply for the US visa regarding procedures n requirements of the same.
Thank you.

Hi simran,

I advise you, its better you apply for US visa while you are studying at the university, than it would be easy to get a visa, else getting a visa after completion of studies is tough, coz US immigration might think that you would not leave the country US once you visit there. If you apply while studying, you can prove to them that you are just going there for a vacation and hence you are gonna come here n continue studying at the univ, this way you can show strong ties with canada.

I did the same and could get 10 yr multiple visa for USm last july.

Now comming to procedure,

1) Go to the site http://amcits.com/, book an appointment.

2) Fill the form DS 157/158/159, online, take printouts and get 3 photos latest.

3) get letter from school, stating that your full time student and program and duration of study.

4) show proof of statement of funds,(bank statement)

5)Take 125 dollars US for visitor visa, and carry 50 USD more, in case you get visa they charge 50$ for visa stamping.

BINGO, you can fly to US, be sure not to book ur tickets from a discount airlines like JetsGo.

Have a goood luck!!!

Cheers

Nivas

as of me i showed the $ 9000 CAD, well anything between 5000- 7000 would be fine. However be sure to MENTION THEM that you wont be visiting US for not more than 2 weeks!!!
Thats really important, and the next thing is, There is evry possibility for them to enquire the same with your university.I meant, you should tell them that you would be visiting in your semester break, and would return back to continue your studies.

Cheers!!

What i understood from you posting so far is, You are currently a student, finishing your course april 26th, You have break for some time, and you are gonna continue your studies in summer.....

If thats the case, well you can apply ASAP.You can tell them that you are having break between your studies and you visiting your friends and family, since you were alone all this time ( Im not sure if you have family here)

However, as you are having visa until august 2005, there is a possibilty of giving you US B1/B2 ( Visitor visa) for only six months, and if you are lucky enough than you can expect more than that irrespective of the canadian Visa.

Also, i presume that you havent been ever got US visa rejected.

Could you please tell me the embassy you would be going for.....´coz if you take US embassy Toronto, the scenario is different and they are really strict and chooosy in giving VISA, particularly after 9/11, The case is totally different at US embassy Ottawa.

any questions welcome!!

cheers

If you are completing your studies by april 26th and you dont have nothing to day there after, than its better you enroll in some program, just to show them that you would be returning back to canada to complete your new program.
