Subject: what is contained in a Specimen IA
  Hi All,
Just wish to know what an IA contains. In the case of an interview request, how long does normally take between IA and the time of the interview? What about the time lapse for an updated proof of funds and medicals? Are applicants given a deadline to submit updated proof of funds and medicals? If so what is the approximate delay period?

wait times vary from embassy to embassy. in the very active embassies, the wait could be 3 years. In other places 6-10 months. Any time during the process, CIC can request additional documents, proof of funds etc. I believe you have 90 days to respond or to provide an explanation why you can´t. Obviously, using all 90 days to respond adds 90 days to your processing time.

Thanks Sharon,

Actually in my AOR dated 3rd December 2005, I was told I should be expecting IA in 6-8 months so I am roughly quite certain when I would be getting my IA. But my problem is what this IA contains and how roughly one can delay submission of documents and medicals so the latter does not expire before I finally decide to leave for Canada.

you may still get a request for documents between now and your IA. do not be surprised. Once CIC examines all your documents, they send out the IA letter. It tells you that yes/no - your file has been approved to this point. You will then get instructions to pay your landing fees and have your medicals done buy a designated practitioner. I think you have 90 days to complete your medicals. Your medicals must be approved by Ottawa before anything else can happen. How long that takes seems to be a new mystery. There is also the issue of International background checks. How long those take is the second new mystery.

Once the embassy has the results of those 2 things (medical and background) you will be sent a letter requesting your passport. Again, you have 90 days (I believe) to respond. Something to remember... you have one year from the time you take your medicals until the point you must land in Canada. That is about as far as you can stretch out the process.

does that help?????

Thanks again Sharon for the clarification. But one more thing. What about the request for an interview?. I guess it is supposed to come with the IA in a situation where an applicants case is not interview waved. What would actually neccesitate an interview?

yes... call for an interview would come with the IA letter. any number of things could trigger interview. need for clarification about language skills (not what is presented in test results), education (fraudulent documents), work experience (fraudulent employement info), spousal relationship (non legit relationship). anything that they are not confident about.
