Subject: Is it worth to immigrate to Canada
  Hi,
I am from New Delhi, India, I applied for immigration around 2 years back and i am expecting my visa formality very soon to complete.
Can someone advise me, is it worth to immigrate these day, while the economic situation in india is also very good.
I am an Engineer and MBA, working with a leading IT co in India as a Consultant, my wife is M.Sc, B.Ed and a Maths teacher in Delhi from the last 7 years.

Is it possible to get the job in Canada of the same status and lead a honorable life.

Can some honestly give the ground realities.

It sounds like you have a good life in India. Why give it up to start at the bottom? You will not have the same status as you do now. You will have to work very hard and long to gain any level that you are at now.

Are you happy in India? Is life good? Do you live comfortably?
Are you happy with your job?

You are the only one who can make the decision but if you answered YES to any of the questions, I would start questioning leaving a good life for a mystery life.

It will not be easy starting your life in Canada. If you are a strong willed person and don´t mind working hard for some time, then you might be happy. BUT if you are a person who would suffer if you were not living at the same level you have now, then you will not enjoy the move.

Think hard about WHY you want to move. Then you will know what to do.

Good luck

It is not worth it unless you have a good job offer. If your idea of coming to Canada is for making money, forget it. You will live on paycheck to paycheck.

Hi,
I agree with the previous replies. I think you have to understand the motives behind your possible move to Canada before you give up your (I guess rewarding) life in India.
In my experience, lot of people just want to migrate from India to any other country (YES - any other country that will accept them), not because they really want to, but because it just sounds COOL !! (Hey, I live in Sydney, or dude, look us up in Toronto or London etc.)
With the economic situation in the countries out here (US and Canada) I will not vouch for you finding the jobs of similar status here within a short period of time (moreover the hardship might be even more applicable for your wife, purely based on the fact that IT jobs are to some extent relocatable). Now the decision is yours to make. If you are happy with your situation in India, you don´t need to move out, but you can take up the PR anyways, so that you can buy another 3 yrs or so before you can make a concrete decision.
Cheers.

Engineers in Canada (in reply to: Is it worth to immigrate to Canada)
You probably will not be able to work as an engineer once you get here. Every Canadian engineer must possess a P´Eng to work in this field. P´Eng´s (which is basically an engineering license) are given out by private provincial engineering societies. If you did not graduate from a Canadian university they are next to impossible to get. All professions in Canada require a Canadian license to practice. The government DOES NOT tell you this on the immigration forms. My husband has a master´s degree in engineering from one of the top private universities in Latin America and he cannot work as an engineer. Be careful and do not come without a job offer.

I cannot argue with any of these folks. The Canadian economy is strong but if you require licensing for your profession, there is no short cuts. (virtually every country in the world has their own licensing standards - Canada is not unique)

The thought of a lateral move both socially and economically... cannot say it is impossible but not very likely. I would not expect to be able to come to your country, walk into a company an expect the same level of seniority, responsibility and salary as I experience here either. It is not realistic.

if your world is satisfying and comfortable...what would motivate you to change it?

the snow ?
If it´s purely for economic reasons...don´t do it. Was in TO 2 weeks ago and had a MD and a MBA driving me around in a cab.If it´s for other reasons...I won´t argue there.
Anyway, India is becoming THE country for outsourcing any kind of services , give it 5 years ( about the time you´ll need to get in Canada ) and you guys are a major player in business around the world.
Just my 2 cents.

I would argue that if you have the will to succeed, you will. You got to be stubborn to make that happen. Yes, you may wonder, why I need to immigrate if you have a comfortable life-style in your country. Perfectly valid. But think about the higher standard of living you can afford in a developed country versus the ground realities at home country. Think about yourself as a global citizen with skills to offer for a compensation that you think you deserve. If it is the respect, seniority and all the other intangible stuff that you are looking for.. stay back. If it is a richness of experience, better medical care while you are working and after you retire, education of your children then think again.. how will you broaden the horizon of your child´s education, give him or her more exposure. You need to be some-what entrepreurial to find ways to succeed. Professional license is required as an engineer as several people mentioned here.. but it is not necessary.. you can check that on the website for ontario professional engineers licensing web site. It says you could be working for a professional engineer. It probably is more important if you are starting a new company. Then again you have options to partner with a professional engineer. Hey man .. there are ways out.. you got to question at what cost. You won´t find a pot of gold here but it´s not all that bad either.

Should move to Canada, but if you are one of the
types who will get bogged down with the intial
hickups to settle in Canada , then drop the idea.

India for sure is progressing but to reach the
level of US and Canada, it will take another 50 years
the whole mind set of people in India is very different
as compared to that of Americans and Canadians

If you are leaving you job in India can I PLEASE have it !!! I am actually trying to move back from USA although I have a canadina PR application also in progress.

What you need to think about is a ratio of living expenses to after tax salary, how long you have to work and how easy/difficult life is for you. Computer jobs these days require you to work way more than 40 hours and there´s a lot of pressures of downsizing etc.

And then you have to deal with the snow/cold and have to do all the chores by yourself, hired help is a luxury even rich people can´t afford here.

My advice is just visit Canada and get your PR but don´t quit your job in India.
