Fiancee (in reply to: how can you sponsor a fiance?)
Nope. Can´t sponsor Fiancee. That provision was removed in 2002.

If you don´t want to marry (officially), you might want to consider sponsoring her as conjugal partner or common law spouse (if you have physically co-habited with her). This is not easy. You would have to convince the immigration authorities that a relationship exist. You would need to have known each other for at least one year, and have enough evidence to prove that both of you were in regular communication.

must you get married? (in reply to: how can you sponsor a fiance?)
hi!thanks for the reply.so, if i sponsor as a conjugal partner, what are the requirements?or are you required to get married as soon as the partner gets here in canada or not at all?like, are you allowed a certain time to get married or something? and how long does it usually take for the papers to be processed?

There are no requirements to get married with the conjugal partner category. That was part of the old fiance visa category, and CIC decided it didn´t want to be in the business of checking up on people after they arrived, to see if they got married.

I´m going through that process myself, I´ve been waiting 6 months now. Average time is 4 months for Vienna.

Fiance in canada (in reply to: how can you sponsor a fiance?)
Hi! I have few question in context of what has already been explained above. I am here on student visa and still studying at a university in Canada. I have been in canada for almost three years now. I have fiance in toronto who is a canadian citizen. She is also studying rite now. We dont plan to get married soon. we both want to deal with education first. Is there a way that she can sponsor me. Since there are no more "fiancee category", is there a way she can sponsor me?

Thanks,
-HHM

So.. if there is no fiance category.. what do you say when you are bringing all your stuff over to move to Canada. My boyfriend and I are planning on getting married next summer. He is a Canadian citizen and I am from the U.S. Do we have to get married first, move me to Canada, and then start the paper work?? What do you tell the immigration officers at the border when you are moving all your stuff over. "Hey.. moving into your country.. so let me in!!"??? Please let me know!!

Wait Time before I can sponsor (in reply to: how can you sponsor a fiance?)
I am a permanent resident of Canada. I married my fiance last week who was visiting me in Canada. Can I apply for her sponsorship right away? Some people say we need to get the original marriage certificate before we can apply. But that takes a long time. Almost 12 weeks? So now we are just waiting and the wait is bad because her visitor visa is for a limited time. What can we do? Thanks in advance.

When will the visitor´s visa expires? She has the option to ask for an extension...

While waiting for the original marriage certificate I suggest that you donwload the application kit in Sponsoring a spouse (in-land or outside Canada?). Based on the checklist, you need to produce/obtain lots of supporting documents proving your relationship/marriage is genuine and not just for your (now) wife to get PR.

You have an option to submit the application in a CPC, case processing center, here in Canada. Once application is submitted your wife is not required to leave the country until the result is given to your application. Just be sure your application to sponsor your spouse reached the CPC before her TRV will expire.

Good luck! and let me know if you need further assistance.

Sincerely,
Elopez
