Subject: Skilled Worker Immigration:
  Hi,

i have several questions about immigration to canada and hope you guys can answer and give me some advise. I´ve been in canada for 7 years. I finished 3 years high-school and 4 years university, and am now working as a PC & Network Technician on a 1 year work permit. My question is..

1. Can i begin to submit my application on my 9th month of work permit or i must reach 1 full year of work experience first?
2. Does part-time work experience count? If yes, how does it work?
3. I know 1 company wants to hire me but they don´t want to go through the HRDC step so if they write me a permanent job offer, will i get point for it or should i submit that along with the application still?
4. Since i´ve been in canada for 7 years, should that be enough to prove my english level and wavier the interview? Or can i take the IELTS exam after i submitted the application, just in case my proof is not good enough or when they still need it?
5. Is that possible to submit the police certificate and medical test result along with the application so it will speed up the immigration process?
6. As my work permit will end in Aug and i must leave canada by then, so can i submit the application to Buffalo, USA and go back to wait in Hong Kong?
7. How long does it normally take to get the approval of the immigration?

Thanks for your time,

Martin

why do you not apply for a new work permit with the new company? that way you can stay in the country while you complete your application.

1. u must have at least one year of full-time employment
or the equivalent of that in part time. i heard that one year full-time
is defined as working 37.5 hours per week for 52 weeks,
or,as an example, if u worked part-time for 2 years, working 20 hrs per week, then that should be enough, etc.
so when u get ur work experience letter make sure it specifies how many hours u worked.
3. not sure about this:
i think u need the HRDC, unless u are on a post-graduation work permit or any other type of job that doesnt require HRDC confirmation. u can call 1-800-242-2100, press 1 then 2 then 0, and u will get an agent,
experience has showed me that sometimes these agents are not sure about some things, or have different opinions, so u can try calling more than once and speaking to different agents..
4. one of my friends applied for skilled worker immigration, but didnt do the IELTS exam, although she provided 2 letters from 2 of her employers stating that she high proficieny in Enlgish,
her application was returned to her cos she didnt write a letter herself stating her proficeny in english,
so I guess you should write a letter by urself describing ur english skills, e.g., talk about ur education in english , etc..
If u can provide photocopies of english grades received, TOEFL, SAT scores etc..

All this doesnt guarantee that they wont ask you for an IELTS test, if the officer feels u need to do the test then u have no choice...
5. the police certificate is only valid for 6 months, so
u can submit the application, wait a few months, and then
do the police certificate, to avoid doing it twice
as for the medicals, i think they send u the instructions aboiut the medicals when they accept ur application, so not sure if u can do that without their acceptance??

6. I think u can, ur file will not be transferred from buffalo to hong kong unless u ask them to.
its advisable to have an address in canada for correspondence though.

7. check out http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/times-int/02a-skilled-fed.html
these statistics change all the time, I find it takes less time than these stats show

As of question 1. I heard from other people saying that when i submit my application and by the time they actually look at my case, i´ll then have reached 1 year work experience. Do you think that´s a possible way to do so?

As of question 4. If i also write a letter describing my english skill and other possible english related education and experience, i should be ok to bypass the interview or further concerns? Also, let´s say they give me a low score which makes me unqualify for immigration, will they simply ask me in for interview or just reject my application?

As of question 5. First i need to submit my application, then wait for their instruction for the police certificate and medical test or i can do it without their notification?

Other than all these, do you people know any way that i can speed up the process?

Thanks so much again.

1. I am not sure about that, there is a chance that your application could get returned back to u, plus it could take them less than a yr to give u ur IA

Even if you do take the test, this doesn´t mean u wouldnt get asked for an interview. I don´t think they would reject ur file just cos u didnt prove ur english skills.

You can do the police certificate without their notification, I ´m not sure if u need ur file no though..

I´ve heard that ppl with jobs are given higher priority, but
there is no solid ground for that.
