Subject: Am I naive or what?
  Hi,

My husband (Indonesian citizen) and I (French citizen) are in the process of collecting all the documentation requested for permanent residence (skilled workers). I am the principle appplicant. We clear at 87 points on the sefl-assessment test.

We are preparing all university transcripts, copies of diplomas/degrees, notarized copies of past and current employment contracts, police certifications, reference letters from employers/supervisors, list of previous residences, travels, banks statements...I am trying to be really thourough and carefull to have it ´all´ in the initial package. We have given ourselves 3 months to put it all together (we lived in 5 different countries in the last 15 years because of our work (humanitarian aid workers) so it gets a bit complicated).

We will be applying through Paris. All this time, I have been thinking that, if we send the application in June 05, we would get the interview sometime in 05 and everything would be ´over´/finalized sometime in 06.

Am I being really naive? your posts are scaring me...!!! Why does it seems that so many asks if you can send without the police records, or employment contracts,ect...is that why it takes so long for some people? is my approach of trying to be so thourough just silly, and i´d be better off to just get the ball rolling asap and complete the file as we go?

Thanks!

no ur not naive . your doing the right thing , i to stayed around 3 months collecting papers , experience letters and whatever you might think .. but when you do something you should do it right ,no need to find urself in delay for a couple of months just because you forgot a stupid little peice of paper ..
good luck and welcome to the club .

The anxiety is not at the time of filing. It is post filing and not knowing what is happening. You are just waiting for next thing to happen..............

no, you are not (in reply to: Am I naive or what?)
I too followed the same procedure. Collected the documents for about 3 months before applying. Also before sending them, arranged and labelled them with a sticky to help the officer in charge. Being meticulous from our side definitely helps the officers.

In case, some one is interested in the time line it took me 11 months from Apr 04 - Mar 05 to get PP request from Buffalo, NY.

we are in the final stages of applying for skilled worker PR through the embassy in Paris. we are waiting for our PP request now. We started in June 04. Interview was waived. We even ran into some courier/postage problems that added some time. I think without interview, 1 year is realistic. They will tell you once you get your AOR.

I cannot emphasize enough that the best way to get a quick decision from CIC is to make your application a ´no brainer´. Send absolutely everything they ask for in the checklist... plus whatever else you think would help them make a positive decision. It will be a hefty courier bill, but it will be a good investment. make sure you have copies of everything in case something goes missing. use a courier with a tracking number.

If you expect to move some time during this year, consider using a post office box for correspondence.

That´s correct! Make the application a no-brainer because the average IQ of the personnel employed in the consulates are brainless...

we may assume the CIC staff have no minds... but I have met a few immigration applicants that can write a book called ´how to be stupid 1000 different ways.´ Someone has to decide to think... who will it be?????
