Subject: Working visa ending...what are my options?
  Hi.

I am a New Zealand citizen, currently living in Canada with a one-year work visa. I am interested in immigrating, but have a few questions, which I hope someone can help me with.

I have been living with my girlfriend and her parents (Canadian citizens) for approximately 10 months now. What criteria would need to be met to fall into ´common law´ status? Will the fact that we are both living with her parents affect this at all?

My girlfriend and I have discussed marriage in our future as well. I was just wondering, would this make the immigration process easier? Once married, am I able to stay in Canada, or must I return to New Zealand? How long does this process take? It is

Finally, on what foundation does a skilled worker immgration work? I am currently employed and have been working at the same job here in Canada pretty much since I got here (June, 2004). If my employer chooses to keep me at my current job, what options do I have?

Any thoughts, or answers to my questions would be greatly appreciated. Or if anyone knows who else I could talk to (ie: lawyer, etc) regarding my questions, please let me know as well. Thank you again.
