Subject: earning six figure salary in canada
Are canadian salaries at par with us salaries. I am skeptic whether a move from us to canada is going to reduce our standard of living.
Are there people in this forum who have job market experience in Canada in professional field such as engineering, and mba to comment?

Salaries in Canada rarely go to six digits, even if they go, the tax structure helps reduce the money u get. If u are coming to Canada for 6 digit salary, u may get it but the chances of getting that are more in states...so think hard before coming...

departure bay... not sure what statistics you are using... that works out to $14 per hour. My office assistant makes more than that.

senior management positions pay good money, but not the kind of cash you might see in the US. 20% less might be a reasonable expectation. However, your health costs are less. I do not see a lot of senior staff gazing over the Canadian border to the US that are feeling sorry for themselves.

HRDC website offers salary ranges. http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/en/home.shtml

d.b.- you cannot go by Canadian average wage. I think that is around $42,000. This poster is asking about salaries in the top 10% of the work force.

small city, big city is not relevant in this discussion.

sharon,

Govertment always post more salary for each position then real in market.Only few ppl get that rate otherwise mostly they give less then that because they knew that new immigrant coming and they need job and they take advatange.

I was the victom of that tooo.

Plus 80% of educated immigrant don´t get job in there field because of no canadian exp or have to get license etc......

so those have do labour job ,i know mostly engg, doctors do labour job.If they have to study they have to spent too many time and money. So Govertment only care for tax coming out from immigrant.

In the US they do consider foreign education for job but here they don´t .So ppl get job in own filed in US plus they don´t take advantage of immigrant because they knew how to test person even if they dont have NA education.

Plus about health expense now may be you know that everybody who works have to pay health tax in canada.if you earn more then 50,000 have to pay tax between 600-800 CA$ and if you have health insurance in US it will cost around this amount.

But same time you will have more salary ,low tax bracket for salary plus half of sales tax.

Do the math.................

the question was about 6 figure incomes. all things being equal (we can debate the rest forever), same job, same skills, same responsibility will pay a little less in Canada.

There are exceptions to everything, but I think this answers the posters question.

We( my husband and I ) came from USA 6 months ago . my husband gets almost 6 figure salary here(base) plus 15-20% bonus of the salary . So not bad .
But I think this is not the general condition. normally salary here is 30000 - 50000/year . So if you want to come here and want a six salary figure than you have to try really hard .
