Subject: Employment Verification
  Hi All,

I´ll be applying for PR soon; still gathering the required paper-work. I´ve a simple question regarding employment verification: I work for a small compay and have a close relationship with my boss. I got the employemt verification letter but didn´t mention anything to my employer regarding the Canada PR application. Now, is there any chance that CIC may contact my employer for verification purposes once they start processing my application? I fear that it could danger my emploment status before my PR is approved. I´m sending my paystubs and reference letters along with the application. Please let me know. Thanks.

If you work for a small and low/medium reputation organization, then chances are about 50% that CIC will verify your employment.

They did call both my current and past employer to verify employment. I don´t know if they will in your case but I would tell your employer just in case. By the way, if they ask you to attend an interview they will ask for an updated letter.

Thank you all; I´m glad I asked it in this forum. At what stage of the application process you think the verification may take place? Lets say I send my application in (Buffalo) around May 2005. When should I expact such inquiries?

Also, one of the official employment verification letters (not contract document) from my PREVIOUS employer is dated 2002. Is this a problem? Should I try to obtain one that´s current? Or, the date doesn´t matter as long as the letter has all the info they need?

Thanks!
