dear friends ,i just want you to consider this advise , sometimes when people are in stress just like that of the medical exam or any other stressfull conditions , they might develop a state called white coat hypertension ( white coat refers to the physican ) and as soon as you leave the dr or get out of this stressful condition your blood pressure comes back to normal ..
so here is my advise and btw i am a pharmacist with grey hair.. when you do ur landing , stop the medication for a couple of weeks .. and see check your blood pressure again . if its normal discontinue the antihypertensive medication .. coz there is no need to take medications coz your fine ..
but if the hypertension is still present .. then there is no alternative but to continue the medication again ..
and good luck for you all

sorry... I think that is very dangerous advice. Doctors know that patients are nervous during a doctors visits...and take that into consideration. Nobody should discontinue a medication without first consulting a doctor. the last thing you need is major health problems your first few weeks in Canada.

for your info sharon , theoretically , a doctor should monitor a patients blood pressure on several occassion and it may reach to 5 visits untill he is sure that its really hypertension .. not in 2 visits determine that this or that patient has hypertension and that he should be placed on medication .....( and this is what i have read concerning some people that went trought medical 2 visits then medication )
So .. are you willing to take every day for the rest of ur life a medication , and there might be a one in a million chance that you are ok and dont have blood pressure ??!!??!?
well i will not , and many other people as well , are not ready to take posion every day just coz They were tense in the medical ..
and oh i forgot to tell you, you mentioned that the physicians put in mind that the patient is nervous .. so does he have a figure that he multiplies the results with ?? to exclude the nervousness ?? i dont think so .. he just writes what is infront of him .
and finally ..sharon i never heared that someone died from hypertenstion .. people die from the complication of hypertension .. and that takes years to develop .. and ahvent you heared about the side effects of antihypertensive medication ?? well humm.. odema , fatigue depression sexual disfunction .. so a couple of weeks wount kill ya :) but at least you might be drug free.
and again .. its up to you men and women to deside .
thanks

not sure why we are discussing this on an immigration forum. Hopefully, no immigration applicant would use an Immigration medical exam as the difinitive answer to any or all health problems. I find it hard to imagine that an immigration doctor would treat his client with medication after the Immigration exam. More likely he would suggest they go back to their family doctor for follow-up

You are right... Hypertension will not kill you, its consequences will. sorry if I alarmed anyone.

I have lived with hypertension for 10 years so I understand your points very well. I also know that the Canadian medical community would NEVER take you off BP medication cold turkey.

Suggesting a newly landed PR discontinue medication strikes me as irresponsible. they should find themselves a family doctor and have their condition monitored in the same way it would be monitored in their home country.

lol. Well...living under the pressure of long long processing times can cause hypertension in a healthy woman like me , and I´m afraid I´ll have a heart attack before I get my visa... anyway...I still love you Canada, I´m comming I promise ...
