Subject: Bond for visitors visa
there has been some scandal in Canada this week over immigration and visitors visas. Indian nationals were declined visitors visas to Canada because they did not have sufficient ties to thier home country and there was question about their willingness to return home at the end of the trip. The families of the applicants went to their member of parliament for assistance. They wanted the member to write a letter of recommendation to immigration to allow the visa. He was not convinced.

What he did was very contravercial - but I am wondering how our posters see this.

The government official said he would only write a letter for the relatives if the hosts put up money as a bond to guarantee that the visitors would leave the country. If they did not leave - they would lose the money. We are talking a lot of money! Enough to motivate the host family to keep the terms of the visa. In the cases discussed in the newspaper - the money was always returned.

In situations where CIC is refusing to allow someone into the country on a visitors visa... do you think this is a reasonable way to satisfy everyone´s concerns. My fiance was denied a visitors visa 3 different times. I think I would have been willing to put up a bond but I did not know how to go about it. Not sure how much I would put up, but enough to motivate me to make sure he got on the plane.

This is not CIC policy. should it be an option available?

Hi Sharon,

I too have same problem as urs. My wife & little daughter have been denied Visitor Visa 2 times. Same reasons like Family Ties & funds in her name. This is ridiculous now that they want to keep families apart. Still they are very family oriented and more caring towards their kids here in Canada. How can one just come alone for years to only work here without his families? This is unrealistic.

I am on a Work Permit.

It is a great idea, however, at the same time it won´t fair those people who can´t afford to it , inspite of their honest intetion not to exceed their visas limitation .

I thik canadian government has to keep the country safe and unfortuntely we don{t want to see our lovely Canada full of gangs and crime specially in cities like Vancouver or Toronto.
By the other hand I feel sorry because people in the worls are having a really hard time in their home countries.
But I totally understand canadian government.

Vikas: there is no legitimate bond program that I know of. This was one government official´s way of creating some accountability to the host and making a way for the visitor to come. It was close to $50,000 I think.

I have commented to your other thread regarding your situation. I will tell you, there are thousands of immigrants who either leave thier families in Canada and work elsewhere (Hong Kong) or do the reverse - leave their families in their home country and work in Canada. It is often dependent on their particular economic situation.

I am concerned that you did not understand the terms of your work permit.

sorry about my spelling in the previous post.

This question has been on debate table as long as visas have been introduced. There is no perfect way to answer if an applicant will return or not.

They (immigration officials) can only try to find enough grounds by discounting reasons for "NOT STAYING", which are home ties - like secure jobs, bank accounts, property, continuing education etc. This in my view is logical and fair way of evaluation.

Now what about applicants who don´t have these documents? Well unfortunately there have been more than once that like-wise people who were granted visas never went back to their home-country. They fit the profile of candidate who may not return, so unfortunately they are most likely not granted visas.

Recent world security situation now has another factor added besides a possible "economic immigrant" category; which only makes situation difficult.

Spousal candidates have also been hit by historical and repetitive cases of fake marriages.

There is no clear answer to this situation for a long time to come. The countries which are in question where the most illegal immigrants arrive from would have to get a major boost in their economic and political situation for them to come at par with countries like in Europe or US whose citizen?s don?t need a visa to visit Canada.

You, the citizens of Canada can influence laws to lax immigration rules but I ask are you willing to pay for the cost of the illegal immigrants arriving in your country?
They may be cheaper labor, however weigh the economic pro and cons. The added burden on social security, medical, education, infrastructure and environmental issues because of illegal(s) amount to much more than the savings from a cheap form of labor.

I´m for pro-globalization and for fair travel. I´m afraid fair travel amounts to check for who can and cannot come in a country and for that visas are very important.

This is something which needs a continuing debate and cannot be answered in one meeting or this forum thread.

Lina, it is not Canada´s fault or responsibility that this poster did not consider the impact of working overseas on his family.

Hello LIna::
I believe what you say but unfortunately there are always people trying to take advantage of the system and that{s hard to control.
