Subject: Name Changes AFTER marriage?
I am a Canadian adn I am marrying an American. We have already filed for the K-1 Visa, but I am wondering if you could point me in the right direction?

After we get married (I will be in the US at that point) what steps to I need to make (both in Canada and the US) To change my last name to my new married name?
Thanks

Let me give you a piece of advice: do not change your name. Right now you probably got butterflies in your eyes but once the reality dawns, you may find that your American hubbie is a psycho and might end up tossing him. Then you have to go through the whole damn process to restore your maiden name! Get married and wait till the butterfies fly away and then decide if you still want to change your name after you experience his farting in bed and in kitchen.

Well, I for one, and optimistic about my marriage.
We have been together long enough that I would know by now, whether or not he were a psycho.

for CanadaBound posting. I think such harshness was not necessary. I hope his negativity was about the name change and not personally directed to you or your husband.

But I do agree with the namechange situation. I think there is no need to change the name unless you can not live emotionally without it.

maybe I wasnt clear enough.
I am looking for help for CHANGING my maiden name, to my married name once I am MARRIED.
I plan on staying married to my husband for my life, and I want to share the same last name as he does.

So, does anyone have any help for me?

here is my 2 cents worth, coming from a woman who had to change a name the other way. I would wait until all your immigration is complete and then go for a name change. all your education and work documents will be in your maiden name. Out of sheer simplicity, that would be my suggestion.

good luck, and much happiness to you.
