I´m an American citizen and professional (surgeon) married to a Canadian citizen. Can I enter and work in Canada with a NAFTA work permit so that I can be re-united with my husband while he sponsors me for permanent residency? Can he also sponsor my work permit as he is also a surgeon and owns his own medical practice?

(in reply to: Can I be be sponsored for PR while here on NAFTA?) this is a very specific question. It might be worth your while to call a certified immigration consultant for advice. I would not want to give you wrong information- it´s too important.

(in reply to: Can I be be sponsored for PR while here on NAFTA?) Ok. Maybe that was too specific. How about: Can I stay here in Canada on a NAFTA work permit while awaiting family sponsorship? Thanks.

(in reply to: Can I be be sponsored for PR while here on NAFTA?) the trick is to be on the Canadian side of the border when your husband begins his sponsorship application. how you do that - if NAFTA is your ticket... by all means. once you are in Canada, and your partner begins sponsorship - the new rules tell us they will not toss you out.
