Subject: Questions regarding Marriage to American Citizen
I am a Canadian citizen living in Canada engaged to an American Citizen who is still in College in the States and will be graduating from College next May. My Fiance plans to move to Canada once she Graduates and we plan to get married sometime soon after.

We are currently in the process of setting a date and deciding on a location. I have a few questions.

Does it matter if we get married in Canada or the US? If we get married in the US will she have a problem coming back to Canada with me so we can file in Canada?

Also I read about Volpe´s changes allowing Spouse´s to sponsor their Spouse from within Canada reguardless of Status. Most times when American Citizen´s enter Canada they do not have any proof of entry, if she requests proof of entry would this signal any flags that may prevent her from entering Canada? If she doesn´t have proof of entry will this cause a problem?

Thanks in advance, any information would be appreciated so we can progress with the wedding planning.

the biggest concern is remaining together during the application process. If you marry in the US and then cross the border, there is a risk that your new spouse will be turned back and advised she must wait outside the country.

If she is able to cross the border, and then you are married... CIC will not request her to leave the country while the application is processed.
