Subject: a question about immigrate
My grandparents wanted to return to Canada on May,6 before.Because of some important things they plan to delay the date to July,it means they will stay abroad for more than 6 months.I heard a news from this site this morning that my grandparents will lose the status in Canada if they stay abroad for more than 6 months. My grandparents immigrated to Canada and got the Permanent Resident Card last year.I am eager to know whether they will lose their status in Canada if they delay the date to July.

The 6 month rule is a reference rule and not one inscribed on stone. As you mention "important event", your grandparents could not come back due to something important - which may have been medical etc. Hence they will not loose the status, however the reason better be "important".

However, they can´t repeat the same thing over and over. As this will show their intent not to be attatched to Canada as home country.

Where did you get the 6-month rule? I thought you can stay out of Canada as PR for 3 years max within a 5 year period.

I asked my uncle to call the immigration office and he send a e-mail to me to tell me that the news of six months is out of date so that my grandparents will not lose the immigration status though they stay abroad more than 6 months.
