I recently got my passport back duly stamped with the Canadian immigrant visa. I intend to go to Canada this weekend. Can someone tell me how long a trip should I plan?
Can I come back and wind up here in the US?
Can someone please explain whats the step by step procedure to follow after landing there?

How long you want to stay in Canada is up to you. I have read posts on this forum where people went for a few hours and then returned back to the US. When my husband landed, we stayed for two weeks since we went on holidays. We returned back to Switzerland to pack up our household and quit our jobs and will only be moving July/August. I am not sure how long the landing process takes when driving across the border. I know at the Toronto airport, it took only took us 10-15 minutes for the landing. I guess it depends on the officer you have.
Once you are in Canada permanently, you will need to get a SIN (social insurance number) and a drivers license. I dont think there is really a step-by-step procedure to take. The only thing that is important is the PR card which you will get when you give them a Canadian mailing address. Just make sure you spend two years of the next 5 years in Canada to keep your PR status. Good luck and welcome to Canada!

No we did not get the PR card before returning to Switzerland. It was mailed to my parents address in Canada about three weeks after my husband landed. My mother then sent it in the mail to us here in Switzerland.
