my partner and i have been together 6 months. we havent spent much time together as it has been online but he has been here to visit for some time. he is now back in the states, i am here in canada (and am a canadian citizen). we´d like to get married some time in the next 6 months. i´m working and have a home and roots here. he´s working there but is willing to move here to be with me. i know that he can come here as a visitor for 6 months and thats what we´re planning, and getting married in that 6 month period. a few things i´m wondering..

after the 6 month visit, what happens? can we simply go back to the states for a week holiday and come back here with him having another 6 month period?

will the fact that he has spent that much time here make it harder or easier when i eventually sponsor him (i´ve just started my job so i dont want to sponsor him yet)

while he is here, he´d like to do some volunteer work to keep himself busy during the day since he wont be able to work for money. is this ok? will it help the actual process down the road?

any other tips would be great, thank you.

I am an American citizen. I?m not sure that I have the best solution, but me and my fiance who is Canadian plan to marry here in the US and to hopefully both obtain dual citizenship so that we can both teach in Quebec and spend our summers here in the states. The reason we plan to marry here in the US is because he can immediately apply for a green card and will receive that in 90 days. If we marry in Canada he will not be permitted to re-enter the US until AFTER the Green Card is issued.(YOU SHOULD LOOK INTO THAT!) IF we were to marry there and I could not obtain permanent residence in Canada we would be forced to be apart. To become a Canadian citizen one must become a permanent resident for 3 to 4 YEARS, so much more time to wait. I wish you both the best of luck, I´ve just started reading about everything and it´s going to be a complicated process i´m afraid.
