Subject: What a nightmare
I apologize for the heading but I`m getting really frustrated. I applied for the visa 2 months ago and haven`t even gotten a letter back saying that they had received it. I currently live in Japan and would like to head back to Canada ASAP, visa or no visa in hand for my wife. Is this frowned upon? The travel agency said that they wouldn`t give her a one-way ticket without a visa, even to poverty-stricken Canada. Please advise.

If she needs a visa to go to Canada, then DO NOT go without one.....that will not be good.....write aletter asking about the visa.....be patient.....but write a letter.

I know how you feel. I live in Korea with my Filipina wife and would love to get back to Canada as well.

Are you referring to an application to sponsor her for PR? If so, I sent mine over two months ago and have not received any acknowledgement as well. I contacted my MP a couple of weeks ago and got a response a couple of days ago. I was told that I have met the requirements to sponsor my wife and a letter is on the way. Apparently it takes much longer to process sponsor applications for those of us who live overseas ? I don?t know why.

I hope this helps.

Mike

1) if your wife is without a visa, I doubt that they would even let her on the plane.
2) is this a visitors visa or a sponsorship application that you have submitted? If it is a visitors visa - this is not the way you formally bring your wife into Canada - in fact they would likely decline her because there is high chance she would not return home at the end of her term.

if it is a sponsorship application you have submitted, our friend is right... you must be patient and wait for Canada to process all the documents. It is taking a long time because different agencies must provide information that CIC cannot control.

In Canada
Letter of eligibility to sponsor received (in reply to: What a nightmare)
I finally received a letter in the mail officially stating that I have met the requirements for eligibility as a sponsor. The date today is May 3rd. The Canada Post mark is dated April 21st, and the letter is dated April 8th.

E-Client states:

We received your application to sponsor ****** on February 21, 2005.

We started processing your application on March 09, 2005.

We sent you a letter on April 08, 2005 about the decision on your application.

It?s strange how E-Client states my letter was sent on April 8th (the same date indicated on the letter itself) when clearly it was sent 13 days after that date (as postmarked).

All of that doesn?t matter anymore though. I?m just relieved to get my part of this out of the way. Now the Waiting begins for my wife?s PR application to be processed.

For the sponsors living overseas who have yet to receive the aforementioned letter, mine took a full 71 days and all turned out well, so hang in there!

Best wishes and God bless.

another (potential) nightmare (in reply to: What a nightmare)
I seem to be in a similar situation. I live in Japan with my Brazilian fiancee and our 3 month old son. I am working, and my fiance is on a student visa. His program will finish in September, at which time we will have to leave Japan. We haven´t started the sponsorship application yet, as we need to know the best route. I wasn´t sure that I could be a sponsor as I don´t live in Canada. Ideally, we would like to go to Canada as a family. If it were just the two of us, we could stand to live apart for a few months if needed, but I don´t want my son to be apart from his father. After reading some of the posts here, I see that others have applied to be a sponsor while living overseas. I would appreciate any advice the readers could give as well as possible timelines. Thanks in advance.
